Found this at a nearby lcs. I’ve seen a lot worse for a lot more money. Very happy with it. I’m fine with the scratch on the cheek. Looks like a cool scar or war paint.
I'll take it if you decide you don't want it, lol. It's hard to find a 1914 with that good of details. At least it is around here. Glad for you!
I want to go back to the lcs and buy the 16 d and 24 d. This was the best of the three but all three had full dates
One could dream. I see that there was one set of those 1914/3 dies sent to Denver so there is always a chance. The date does look a little interesting to me
Why are they selling $100 coin for $20? ($128 in G04 $150 in VG08). Because of the scratch? It wouldn't take the value down to $20. This is a highly counterfeited coin, and a wide rim is a marker for that. Just going on these photos the other details look correct for a genuine piece. I guess there are still deals to be had out there, and if you are happy with the purchase, good day for you.
I don't think that @NorCal coin is counterfiet. It is very well struck with good details. You made me look for examples. Counterfeit Detection Articles - Coin Community Forum Fake/Counterfeit Detection: 1914 D Buffalo Nickel - Coin Community Forum I can find my 14D if there is any need for a comparison, it's raw.
I said I thought it was genuine. But that the 14-D is highly counterfeited and a wide rim is a marker. But the other details are good. I was just wondering why it was so inexpensive.
Well they told me at the lcs that their customers are buying gold and silver bullion. Nobody is coming in asking for buffalo nickels. They have no time for eBay for a small profit. Best to sell fast and get them gone.
I have noticed that lately, most every dealer is stuck on the internet, kinda sucks some dealers have gotten a little cold.
