Pocket Change Finds; Post Your Results

I got a nicely toned Lincoln in my change. Without my glasses, I can’t make out the date. I flipped it hoping to see wheat…but a Memorial instead. Glad to see at least two lucky pocket finds!!

I suppose Coin Star finds count as pocket change. On Tuesday I pulled 90 cents from one of my frequented coin star machines. I will keep the 2 older nickels and the lone LWC out of the batch. I will put the rest back into circulation.

The 1939 S is my favorite there. But flip the 2022 Jefferson and check the doorway for a DDR. You never know…

 

Caught another one in change…not rare though. Indeed it’s a very common run.

 

Cash register finds today: 1945-S & 1957-D Lincoln wheat cents

 

Cash register finds: 1942 Lincoln wheat cent and a bicentennial quarter.

 

Do you work where there is a register, or do you know someone? Collect currency also? I look for special serial numbers. No luck so far.

 

I work retail so have an access to a cash register almost every day. Always bring some change to buy anything interesting out of the drawers (currency I rarely have the cashflow for lol, but have bought some $2 bills and once a series 2021 $5 bill). Tend to find quite a few wheat pennies and Canadian pennies, occasionally other interesting stuff too (including, but not limited to: bicentennial quarters, foreign coins, and a few circulated proofs. Once even found some Ike dollars).

Pocket change find actually in my change for once lol: 1948-D Jefferson nickel. Already had it, but still a cool find.

 

My dad's birth year. I always enjoy finding a date that reflects a past event.

Didn't think them worth mentioning yesterday but also found two bicentennial quarters yesterday; just 1 more to finish my second roll worth.

Yesterday's cash register finds:
1993 Canadian cent
Also saw an older Canadian cent (based on portrait, 1965-1989 but couldn't read the date) with some nasty verdigris on it, so didn't take that one home.

 

One of the more interesting finds in a while, found today in the register:
It's a 2015-S Kisatchie National Forest/Louisiana ATB quarter, but... I don't think it's a proof; I think it's a business strike. There's a lot of luster on it but there isn't really any contrast between the devices and the fields. Comparing to actual proofs I have (including the clad proof of this quarter specifically, from my 2015 proof set), it definitely doesn't look like one. Even somewhat circulated proofs have a noticeable amount of frost on the devices, and this one just doesn't.

S-minted business strikes are, issue by issue, actually rarer than W-minted quarters, so great find I think! I've found a few circulated proofs before, but this is the first time I found one of the S-minted business strike quarters in circulation.

 

The first impaired proof I received was an S mint state quarter. Still had the proof luster although dinged and scratched. I think that there were Smint business strikes but I haven’t found one yet here on the East Coast.

 

On another note, this thread broke 250,000 views. Pretty decent traffic. I’m hoping that the trend continues or picks up. Lots of interesting finds out there, even if not rare or valuable.

 

I don't think the modern (post-silver) S-mint business strikes are ever put directly into circulation, only sold to collectors. So I wouldn't expect any left-vs-right-coast difference for them.

 

I wasn’t aware of the S mint production until a couple of years ago. Now I’m looking!
