    Hello,

Can anyone help me with this coin? What is it? Is it genuine or maybe a fake one?

Looks like some Athens helmet or something, so i looked for it in catalogues, internet, wherever, and don't seem to find anything to match.

    Please help! Thanks,

    A

Sadly, it appears fake-ish to me as well.

OK, so I wont dash your hopes up immediately (just delayed). Looks like a nice Athenian Tetradrachm. Fine. But, if anyone can see the same casting seam I do between 3 and 6 o'clock, thats a sure fire indication of a cast fake. Sure, it could still be real, but we would need better photos.

This also looks like a cast fake to me. Note what appears to be a prominent seem along the edge of the coin on the left side of your picture. Struck coins will not have a seem.

If these were offered by the same seller I would stay well away from any other items in their inventory.

Like the movie, buy the coin for under $10 and it will be worth it for laughs.

    You need to:

    from this dealer.

I would not trust them with any ancient (or any) coins after two obvious fakes like that.

He's not a dealer, he's actually stating that these coins have been in his family for at least 2 generations, to his knowledge.

I offered him 20$ for both coins, as he claims it's definitely silver. i'll just meet him, and if it's silver i'll just buy the damn things.

I'm not sure whether you know this guy through someone or if it's a Craigslist deal but PLEASE exercise some caution when meeting with people you don't know who are trying to peddle obvious fakes! I get a sketchy feeling from the two photos you posted.
