Here is a new thread and a new chance to guess the grade on a newly acquired coin. I tried to use "new" as sparingly as possible and hopefully add a new thread to untopple things for @Pickin and Grinin
Great strike as usual for an 81S. A bit too much contact to get a gem grade. The marks in the field obverse, probably look worse than they are with semi Pl to PL surfaces. MS64+, for the color.
+1 ! Nice coin, Denis, I love the colors on this one! You do certainly have an eye for some fantastic pieces.
I'm not worthy of a grading guess. But I'll bet that reverse brings up the obverse up a full point above what a blast white coin would normally get. I'm not normally a big fan of toners but she's beautiful.
I do not think ANACS take eye candy appeal into consideration when they grade coins. And for most stuff other than common year coins and mint marks (aside from old soapbox holders) ........
I have not seen the type of market grading you find at PCGS or NGC with Anacs but I have also seen only a small number of higher end color toners at Anacs so it is a small sample size.
...or not This was an interesting thread as basically everyone went with MS 64. I think that is a fair grade, considering the color (market grade) but PCGS appears to have gone a bit more technical here and gave it a 63.
That's interesting, and a question maybe you can answer? Did you request them label the slab for the reverse instead of standard practice? I sometimes see this on other slabbed coins. Or maybe you bought it that way, but the question remains..... nice coin!
Ms. Liberty’s cheek is smooth enough to be an MS-64, but there is too much clatter in the left field. Given the toning on the reverse, I’m surprised that it didn’t get an MS-63+ or a 64.
I bought this one this way. However, anyone submitting a coin to one of the major TPGs (PCGS, NGC, Anacs, or ICG) can request for the coin to be slabbed reverse forward. I have done that previously. A few times the grader forgot to honor the request but most times they will do it.
Much more than 64 money (closer to 66+/67 money; also the price difference between 63 and 64 is fairly trivial)
