I'm grateful to have a 1912-S V-Nickel in F-15 (as Pictured), but who knows, maybe I'll get lucky enough to land one in AU or MS. This one is absolutely gorgeous though https://www.ebay.com/itm/392196956952
If you are young, you will probably get a 1912-S nickel. The Unc. one you posted is much nicer than my Mint State piece. Did you know that the entire mintage was struck during the last week in December?
I have the one posted above in F-15, but to have one in mint state like that would be a dream. Until I climb the ranks at the Distribution Center I’m at: I’ll take what I can get. But I did not know that, but I do know only 238,000 of them were made. Must’ve been made pretty fast to happen during that week
I'm guessing it had something to do with the introduction of the "buffalo" nickel and the gyrations around finalizing the design. SF was shipped 1913 Liberty Head dies too, but had to send them back.
You know what's messed up? I've had this tab open on my browser for the longest time, it's the only reason I know 238,000 were minted, and somehow missed the very last sentence.
In terms of the 1913 Liberty Head, I know of the 5 that exist (2 that were once Farouk's, both in the Smithsonian now), but didn't know SF was shipped dies for the 1913. At the moment, I'm looking at entering in one of two auctions (or both if there's by some miracle: a lack of bids) for a couple of 1912-D AU Liberty Heads.
I've got a better chance at winning that one too if you're talking about the bottom one. Auction ends well before I leave for work so as long as I wake up before it does: I'll be able to snipe it. You don't think that rim on the obverse would prevent it from getting a straight grade, would you? Personally I'm going after it either way because I like it, but it would be even nicer to know it wouldn't. That would be another great example of a raw Liberty Head I've bought.
Don't know but "No one on the train going by will see it". Probably get a straight grade if sent in but I'm not totally qualified to answer that fully says my lawyer.
Completely understandable and a truer statement has never been said, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on it lol. Because it's not a ding like on the Peace Dollar I had, it looks more like wear from circulation to me so I'm hopeful.
