My USMC proof dollar arrived today. I really like the design, but wish the price wasn't 3x spot. But, it is what it is.

    Nice coin. Semper Fi!

I came close to pulling the trigger from the US Mint on these but changed my mind. I’ll buy them already slabbed instead. Fits my collection better when they’re entombed.

Sorry my pics aren't the best.

The 250th anniversary was what got me, along with that iconic image of one of, if not the most, famous photograph of all time.

Looks extremely similar to the one that came out 20 years ago...

But if you don't have that one, this one looks really good. I just wouldn't see a point in having both.

Yeah, I thought about that. But I don't have the earlier one. I only wish this one wasn't so pricey.

It's still a great design, it's just that the 2005 one and 2025 one look nearly identical. And yeah price is a lot higher than it should be. Even still, might still try to get one if I can scrape up the money. I had the 2005 one at one time but sold it for other coins.

I think I've reached the reasoning that the silver dollar is basically the same design as 2005 so I can skip it, but I might just barely be able to stomach the cost of the half dollar. So maybe.

Decided to get the proof half dollar for my father's birthday (he served in the Marines for 33 years). I reasoned the half dollar has a unique design compared to the silver dollar, which looks nearly identical to the one that came out in 2005 that he already has. Do like the contrast of a typical Marine from 1775 to one from 2025.

May or may not get one for myself a little later (maybe when my tax refund shows up). Do like the design.

Not that it is a disappointment, and I understand artistic license, but it is not historically correct.

Other than that, it is OK, and I guess it is the intent that is important.

Uniforms from 1775 were not well, perfectly uniform, so it is at least reasonably plausible, allowing for artistic license. At any rate it's aesthetically pleasing, and while I like the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima that's on the silver dollar, it's nearly the identical design the 2005 Marine Corps silver dollar already had. (I think this is only the second time, Christopher Columbus in 1892 & 1992 being the other, that essentially the same subject was commemorated twice on US commemorative coins. Arguably the 230th anniversary and the 250th anniversary are different things, but let's be honest both were commemorating the same event, just a different number of years after it.)

It arrived today and I'm happy with it, seriously considering getting one for myself later (even though I served in the Air Force rather than the Marines lol). Mint even gave me a gift box even though I didn't ask for one!

I have stopped buying the modern commemorative coins because of the issue prices. I lost money on all of them except for the gold because the increases in the bullion price. I did okay when I bought them years after they were issued in the secondary market.

If the government issues something for the 250th anniversary, I will probably buy that unless the gold piece weighs an ounce and costs $5,000 or some other ridiculous amount.

With the way the gold price is, combined with the high pricing of the mint, you just might see that price on a gold issue....lol

I'm with you on the prices they charge now; it has to be a subject or design I'm really interested in to stomach what they charge. Most of the recent ones become cheaper to buy from private sellers a few years after they're out.

I went with only the proof half dollar and dollar as the uncirculated ones were made at the same mints. The price is just too high to justify or even need another two examples of the same coin.
