Hey friends, checking in on this as it is outside of my wheelhouse. Going through a coin collection for a friend passed down and found this - thoughts? Potential die cud?
None of the extra metal touches the rim so not a cud. Heavy wear minimizes numismatic interest and corresponding inherent value. Theory: The extra metal may be leftover solder from an attempt at a jewelry piece. If so, this would also detract from its’ appeal.
I agree with surface alteration. Your coin was once worn as a pin. The pin mechanism has since fallen off. Not a mint error of any kind unfortunately. No cuds, die breaks.. nothing. Still worth silver melt.
Yes before I read the comments I assumed that gob of metal is because this was on a piece of jewelry.
