I won this MS-65 US Quarter Eagle 1925-D in last nights auction. You will have to forgive me....but I collect all thing gold Plus it was a steal of a deal.
Mine is a bit larger but cost less. My father gave it to me when I was a boy. It cost him $5. He got a roll from a friend who neglected to turn it in. I need more practice shooting gold. All three are the same coin.
Thanks! I was out all day doing snow, got back home and quickly scanned the on going mail bid auction, which was set to end at 10:00PM EST. I noted that this 1925-D Indian Head Quarter Eagle was low bid at 1i54US...so I bid at last ten seconds and got it for 1204US. Doug, thats a nice Half Eagle! I still need a Indian Head $5/ he was even smarter not to have turned them in. FDR's dumb decision to melt down all those gold coins was insanity. Thankfully somone saved eleven 1933 Double Eagles from the melting pot. The more gold people own the better

Its funny, knowing roughly what I've spent on ancients and medievals over the years, if I had continued collecting US coins I'd probably already have one or more US gold coins. Perhaps in some alternate universe I do lol
Exactly ... same goes for me ... My last big Canadian purchase was this $2000 banknote ... => sure, it's pretty fricken awesome ... but I'd rather have 10 x $200 sweet ancient coins (they just seem a bit more interesting) ... again, I guess they're both pretty cool ... I think this coin is one of the greatest produced by the U.S. mint and yours is very nice @panzerman This is probably a "late Medieval" or "early modern" for the U.S.
Don't apologize! That is a beautiful coin! I use to have one many years ago but during my college years I pawned it for some crazy reason I can't remember.
I love these quarter eagles. They have some of the finest artistry among classic US coins, and they have incused devices, and it's an unusual denomination.
The first gold coin I bought was a raw 1925 two and a half dollar Indian. I bought it at a jeweler's in Cranston, RI. When I got home I looked it up in the redbook and found out Philly made none in 1925. There was no D on the back. I took it to a coin shop in Worcester, MA and they thought it was fake. Then went to another coin shop in Norwich, CT and they said it was fake. Took it back to the jeweler's and he wouldn't deal with me. He ran to the other end of the store. His wife and daughter gave me my money back
Nothing to forgive . . . that is a great piece of metal! At present this is my only gold coin: (I do have a similar color ancient headed my way that I'll need opinions on soon )
Very nice banknote Steve! Too bad they that they gave up on producing beautifully designed, engraved notes like yours. I just love the 1935 issues/esp. the $25 dollar bill is magnificent.
