An 'Otho' at last! (The story of)

Recently, there has been a number of posts regarding 'The Twelve Caesars'. These posts spurred me into looking at my collection to see how many I had. If you were not looking for 'Portrait' coins only, or silver Denarii only, I had eleven coins of the 'Twelve Caesars' set.
I am exceedingly grateful to Orfew for completing the 'series' for me, BUT, yes, there's a 'but'.
Upon closer examination, the 'Otho' was not an Emperor 'Otho' but a Moneyer 'Otho' and therefore didn't belong.

I searched until I found a listing for "Ultra rare, Roman Silver Denarius of Otho". I 'rushed' ahead and purchased it, only to find (with Doug's help) that it was not an 'Otho' but a 'Caracalla'.

I continued my quest and I came up with "Rare Collectable Silver Roman Otho Denarius". I researched the seller, and the coin, only to find that it's authenticity was doubtful.

I took M.M.'s advice and I went to V-coins where I found an NGC graded 'Otho' for sale.
I had to sell a car to do it,(true story)
Sports Coupe 2.jpg but I went ahead and I bought it.
(Now I suppose there will be some who will want me to 'set it free'.)

And, so ends my 'Otho' quest, (unless there is some reason as to why I cannot leave it there?)

I'm sorry that you had to sell that car, it's looks pretty awesome.
I'm very happy though that you finally got a genuine Otho, Grahame.

    Otho can't breathe in there!

    ;):p

Did you really sell a car?

Your last is a nice ending. Otho is an emperor I want. And yes, because he's one of "The Twelve". When it's my turn to look, I'll probably go provincial because I don't have a car to sell!;)

    Really cool score man!

It's a nice coin. I would bust it out of prison, but it's your coin.

That's quite a saga! Glad you finally managed to nab your Otho. That's not one of the reverses of his that you see everyday either.

I'm glad to see you finally got one, despite all the hassles. A very respectable Otho at that.

The last show I attended, a dealer had a beautiful Antioch tetradrachm of Otho for $600 but most people don't like them because the Provincial portraits look nothing like the denarii of Rome. Otho is one who can be identified with no legends and people do not like coins with generic faces sold for high prices. I have no desire for an Otho or several other popular nobodies when the same money would buy things much higher on my want list. Good luck on your search.

I would have kept the car if it's the one in the photo. There are some things I like even more than my coins. Cars, old cars, is one of them.

Well, the coin is a lot easier to carry around in your pocket ;)

I know that a few people on these boards collect cars as well as coins. I don't really know anything about cars (except the ones you posted look old), but I hope that you are happy with your trades!

That is a sweet car, Bing, even if I don't know anything about cars.

    Love the ride.

I have one of those, too, even if it is a couple of years 'older'.

Ooh, and topcat ups the stakes.

I'll pick blue over red, every time.

And a convertible will always loose to a hardtop.

    Your move, Bing!
