I doubt it was real. Not saying that you didnt see one, but im a skeptic when it come to its authenticity. I have visited quite a few dealers and almost everyone of them had a Chinese fake or a Carr oversrike. And the Chinese ones dont look too bad. From my research, there are rumors of a couple authentic ones up in the Oregon/Washington state area. When it comes down to it though, if any do exist in private collections, they are owned by people who dont need the money to sell one nor do they want the publicity and legal battle that ensues if they were to come out with one. But it is nothing more than heresay.
I don't understand how something that was never minted by the U.S. Mint could be considered a counterfeit. I consider Daniel's medals to be small works of art and enjoy them. I just received the following and I think he did a better job than the mint.:
I personnel think only a fool would send one to Pcgs ( 1964-D Peace Dollar ) we all know what happen to the 74-D Aluminum Cent ...
What happened to the double eagles basically sealed the deal that IF a couple happened to exist they will never see the light of day on US soil.
Or the 74 aluminum cent pcgs graded that was going to Heritage in 2014 until the black suits stepped in
Because it doesn't have to have been actually minted by the US mint, or any other mint. And there is case law on that very point. To which Daniel counters by saying that because he is using genuine coins as planchets, his "are different" from those others that were determined to be counterfeits.
I gave them a way to end this once and for all, but they prefer to keep closing these threads and waiting until someone starts another one the following week.
I don't envy the mods tho. Did anyone else notice @ToughCOINS is a mod now? Should we invite him into this "baptism by fire?" Lol
