If you're wondering what @Elizabeth Shamblin looks like without coins on her eyes, here she is on the right, in our sibling photo taken last Thanksgiving. Our sister Jes is on the other side of me.

I want to win the 1854 Seated Half.
It would go well next to my detected 1853 Seated Quarter :woot:
This is my entry post

I want this. Great prize and story. I don’t collect much U. S. but it’s really nice.

masterswimmer A Caretaker, can't take it with me

Rob, your telling of the ritual, and the story, was riveting. I couldn't put it down ;) The picture of Elizabeth was creepy as heck. Kudos, Elizabeth.

I'd like in on this 1854 Seated Half. I do not own any halves older than a Barber half. And that one is straight up black. No red or brown or red/brown coloring at all. So this 1854 would 100% be 'interred' in my 7070. See what I did there? ;)

Thank you, @Elizabeth Shamblin. And as always, thank you, Rob.

Entry Post: I want in on the seated lady. She will be seated in the hoard, front and centered.
Thank you @Elizabeth Shamblin for the prize and thank you @lordmarcovan for the trivia and the funny story. That is so like an older brother. I know I am one.

Thank you @Elizabeth Shamblin for the prize and @lordmarcovan for holding the contest. I would like the 1854 Seated Half.
Both Lincoln's history and the story of you and your sis were fascinating. I saw the coins and the death mask some years ago when I was in Washington with my daughter whose team won the State National History contest and competed in the National History Contest.

I'd like to enter this round! Thank you @Elizabeth Shamblin and @lordmarcovan for the prize and the fun story! I don't have a Seated Half and it would fit nicely into my 19th century type set work-in-progress.

I would like to enter because why not. Also, because I do not have any seated coins.

What a great story -- impressive that the TV show was so well researched.

I was aware of this tradition, but not whole story. Thanks! The Lincoln coins I had never heard before. Your sister's a hoot! Put me down for the 1854 also. :)

I very much want in on the Seated half! I am very much a half dollar guy, but oldest I have is a Columbia Exposition Commemorative. I live Seated coins but really only have seated dimes and half dimes. Thanks Elizabeth for donating!

Sure, I want in for this coin.

In a very loose way, linking 1854 to Chicago and Abraham Lincoln, this is the second earliest photo known of him.

He was in Chicago, while campaigning for the Senate in Oct, 1854, and had just had finished a dinner with a prominent anti-slavery newspaper editor and possibly another anti-slavery person who was close to him. As they were going downtown, they passed a photographer studio and Lincoln had his photo taken and it was given to the newspaper editor.
