Still working on learning my denominations. Tell me if I am correct... The Claudius on the left is a Sesterius and the Nero on the right is an As..... Is that correct?
What I have learned Randy is that a sestertius is 2 and a half Asses. Both are for the most part the same. There was a change in the coinage around BC AD that changed the composition of these coins from Bronze to mostly copper. I don't remember much more, I am not sure of the weights.
This is fairly handy. https://www.forumancientcoins.com/h...02WZiCLvNq5LZwQieXJO6gJBgky4hyreM5AIFi_-cw0Xa I'd recommend investing in a pdf of at least the first volume of Sear's Roman coins and their Values. It's a pretty good deal at around 35 dollars. David Van Meter's 1990's Roman coin guide is fairly useful. I believe Forum still sells it.
Hey, I gave you a list in my introductory thread that welcomed you in. Bottom of Post #1 in that thread.
Also- don't you have an NGC photocertificate for that Claudius? And a flip insert from Tom Wood for the Nero?
Yep. Decimal systems are where it's at, Baby! Just think- the Brits kept their old, quirky, nondecimal pounds-shillings-pence system until 1970!
