So, I'm trying to wrap my head around the 2014 Kennedy Half Dollar...being that it was the 50th Anniversary of the coin being released, they had a lot of additional types that year. I like the Kennedy Half and would like to assemble a complete set one day. 2014 seems a bit more complicated than most years...so I want to make sure that I understand it. So...here is what it looks like to me, please correct me if I'm wrong. 2014 had all the "normal" releases" - 2014-P 2014-D 2014-S Proof 2014-S Silver Proof The only difference with these "normal" releases is that the P/D coins were also released in a special set from the mint. But, as I understand it...those coins were identical to the P/D coins released in the mint sets and rolls. They also had the "50th Anniversary Silver Set" - 2014-P Proof 2014-D 2014-S Enhanced UNC 2014-S Reverse Proof All the coins in this set are 90% silver and as I understand it, were created with the original accented hair design verses the design used today. Finally, they released a 2014-W .999 Fine 0.75oz Gold Half Dollar. So, there was a total of 9 coins that year. Is that correct?

I think my main question concerns the P/D clad set. Some sources I find online say they are the same coins that were released in mint sets and rolls...and other sources say they are special higher relief issues. Which is it?
I have to agree with dddd. PCGS has a separate listing at the very bottom as a SP. Examining the photos, it appears that they were also minted with enhanced hairline style from the 1964 coins. compared to: (pcgs photos)
That is the one I mentioned and is talked about in the link from above. That two coin clad set is different than the normal P/D coins in rolls or mint sets.
This made me go look to see if I had all of them. Well, beside the gold, which I probably won't get, I am missing the 2014-D head of 1964. The Redbook doesn't separate the P and D issues out, but, lumps them in with the same mintage figures. Although there is a subscript noting the fact there are two different issues one being a two-coin set. In Coinworld, their price guide breaks out the two different issued coins, because the prices for each are different. Redbook should do the same just like they have done with satin finish coins from 2005-2010.
The two coins in the special P & D set are different. They are the high relief design. Once you know what to look for the two styles are easy to tell apart. In the pictures that mynamespat posted the upper on is the high relief and the lower one is the low relief. Point to look at are the temple, the cheek, the neck, and the point of the bust. On the high relief the temple area (above and in front of the ear) is well rounded. On the low relief you can see that it is sunken in. The cheek is similar, rounded on the high relief and well sunken on the low. The neck is once again the same way the whole neck are is a smooth rounded curve from front to back while on the low relief it is sunken with just slightly more relief than the fields. Finally the point of the bust. On the high relief it extends further below the motto and closer to the 0 in the date.
just my two cents here - i've noticed MANY disparities between the redbooks entries and that of coinworld's.......most often the mintages are different (which i find interesting as they can't BOTH be right?) - also fail to understand how coinword can have mintage figures for more current years and not for earlier years - as an example - for some denominations - they show mintage #'s for say 2014 / 2015 but no figures appear for 2010 / 2011...?? curiouser and curiouser....
