"Only 4 left" on the 1913 cracks me up. If people are that stupid, then so be it I guess. It is an image of the actual coin, bought by GC in 2022 for $4.2M, seen here https://www.pcgs.com/cert/26876914 but the look of the obverse indicates that the image was lifted from the Heritage listing here https://coins.ha.com/itm/proof-libe.../1184-4153.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515. The slab and font are wrong and I can't scan the barcode, so they photoshopped images of the real coin onto a fake slab. That's my guess anyway. I don't know why they didn't just steal the images from here https://www.greatcollections.com/kb...y-GreatCollections-for-42-million-t497-4.html since they stole images anyway. The barcode is clearly different on the fake slab. Anybody who buys coins on etsy might as well take $100 bills and flush them down the toilet.
A friend who is a plumber asks that you shred them first, apparently flushed money makes a nasty clog and the "tip" just isn't worth the effort.
I posted these a few days ago on PCGS' CU forum with little response. If PCGS won't go after this seller I suppose no one will... https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1111065/etsy-seller-and-violations-of-pcgs-ip#latest The latest; at least he is now blanking out part of the cert info...
My biggest issue with buying from Etsy to begin with is that alot of people go to sell their hand crafted stuff like charcuterie boards for a premium because of the outrageous seller fees (from my understanding/what I've heard.) But that's one thing. Selling coins on Etsy? That's an instant red flag to me right off the bat
That was the next thing I was gonna ask about. I'm glad you did that, at least. I hope PCGS does something about their trademark infringement, though I don't know how difficult it is to go after these sketchy sellers of fake Chinese "slabs". It's bound to be like playing whack-a-mole in a field of mole holes the size of half the continent. Knock one out, and six more pop up.
Seriously, what is PCGS going to do? Report it to fleaBay[SIC] (meant Etsy)? Do you think they get much better response than we do? Because PCGS allows us to use their images in listings, they have a much weaker Intelectual Property / Copyright hammer. But I don't want to be prohibited from using those images.
Why would they report an Etsy seller to "fleabay"? And they do have a right to defend illegal use of their IP.
Mis-remembered which marketplace we were talking about, fixed. Yes they do, but the burden will be higher because they allow people to use their images
I can understand that if it's an image of a real slab. The seller could claim "stock image" or something I guess. But in the case of the 1913, it's clearly a fake slab. PCGS didn't image a fake slab. The issue is the copyright/trademark of the slab itself, not the image of it. PCGS has a much bigger stick than you or me. I would think a cease and desist letter from a PCGS attorney would get the attention of Etsy.
