    I'm no expert here, but if it is I don't think you could ever prove it by the mintmark. Perhaps some experts out there could find enough die variety marks to prove it, but even that seems unlikely given the condition of its surfaces. The more I look at it, however, the more I think it is. I still think it would be hard to prove. It would be worth sending in for grading.

    I don't really know if they could make a fake that looks that bad. I've seen some fakes look quite worn, but these people never do go for corrosion.

    This one appears too beat up to be a fake coin, plus an added mintmark is not likely since the mintmark has taken wear to it like the rest of the design.

    Can't tell.

    S mintmark or no, I need a With Motto Seated quarter for my Holey Coin cork board project. Not sure I'd buy one that rough looking, though. I mean, I do collect holed coins, but I prefer 'em to be reasonably decent looking, aside from the hole.

    It’s advertised as a Philadelphia coin, not San Francisco. In that condition I’d be running the other way.
