A beauty of a coin with Napoleon I’s bust on the obverse! I overspent and am in the doghouse for this and another coin, but I couldn’t help myself. I currently live in Belgium, which fell under Netherlands at this time. Feel free to share your own Dutch or Napoleon coins!
My Father was Dutch, I am currently seeking a Groningen Siege Coin as that is the province in which he was born. I have few Dutch coins and yours is outstanding but here is one. Shipwreck Treasure, VOC Hollandia Wreck, Sank Scilly Isles 1743. Silver 8 Reales Spain, Philip V 1740. Provenance : Pedigreed to the Sotheby, Parke-Bernet auction of June 1972, with original lot-tags. Recovered from: Hollandia, sunk in 1743 off the Isles of Scilly, southwest of England. Hollandia was a ship of the Dutch East India Company (Dutch: Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie; VOC) which wrecked on Annet, Isles of Scilly on 13 July 1743 causing 276 fatalities. The wreck was discovered in 1971 by Rex Cowan, a London attorney.
That is so cool!!! I’m a huge fan of siege coinage. It does appear that Ma-Shops has a couple things to offer from 1672 Groningen, though I’m sure you’ve perused them. https://www.ma-shops.de/shops/search.php?searchstr=Groningen+1672&catid=-1
A couple coins from the Low Countries: Maastricht, 1 Stuiver, 1579, Siege coinage Liège, Liard, 1650-1688
Oh, and a couple from the Netherlands East Indies from the Napoleonic Era: 2 Stuivers 1810 (Cut copper wire emergency money) Java, 1 Duit, 1809, Louis Napoleon
Nice! Don’t start me on going after Napoleon coins I’ll go broke! Agreed! Adds to the design and makes research more fun. Love that Maastricht coin!! Awesome copper wire money! I’ll need to keep an eye out for one of those.
I wanted to tell you that it is actually a Spanish coin, Mexico mint. But you provided the information with the picture - Spain So, you know
