Over in the Philippines a few years ago there was a big scandal in the central bank when employees were saving low SN notes and buying them from the bank, then reselling them on eBay etc. The Reserve Bank of India was another that seemingly had insiders holding currency aside for resale. In contrast some of the banks in Great Britain have held notes aside and then auctioned them for various children's charities. The banks in Scotland got in, and then so has the Bank of England.
That is a political maneuver on the part of the Prime Minister - nothing much to do with the RBI other than forcing RBI to recall the 500 and 1000 Rupee notes in an effort to "root out corruption". And the result is an erosion in the confidence in the rupee. So Indians being Indians, they will find a clever way around currency controls by buying up more "illegal" gold.
I have no clue, they are high, but they have one of the most extensive catalogs. Everyone should be on their catalog mailing list even if it's only because you like to window shop. Beautiful photos front to back. I kind of get the old man drooling effect when I look through. Always some history included also. What I wouldn't give after seeing the old classic notes in their if only I had a big pocket book. Folks at the BEP should get their catalogs also, maybe to help them remember what beautiful notes we used to have.
SN's mean nothing to me unless they are followed by a * Here is what I really want: So far my oldest colonial era note is from 1733 Maryland.
Is that correct ? the graded Silver Certificate is worth that much less? I would have to question that, especially since the ungraded note below appears to be no better then a 65 based on margins. but we all know you can list a note for sale for anything its what it sells for is the key !
I should have mentioned, the second photo is for the whole strapped pack of 100 consectutive. Thanks jeff.
I'm guessing they are pricing the sale of the individual notes (retail) and adding up all the prices......kinda like a drug bust when they capture 3 pounds of heroine and quote a price as if you are selling it all in dime-bags. Some of the really low serial numbered notes could bring good money.
