This is listed in the Krause catalog as rare and only has one condition listed. It appears to have a very good obverse and fine reverse. My question is, should I send this to ANACS and should I ask for conservation to make this a more presentable coin? Yes, I do realize it has a hit at about 10k on the obverse. Would any of you hazard a guess as to it's value? Thank you all. I picked this up for $1.00.
Not sure what you're looking at, Tommy, but my Krause catalog shows 10,897,000 were minted. The Proof and Prooflike versions have higher values, but yours doesn't look like a proof to me. Here is a screenshot of NGC's World Coin Price Guide:
Hmmm, I did not see any lower grades listed. Maybe I need to take a better look. No, I'm pretty sure mine was not a proof.
In my haste I was looking at the listings for the nickel version, not the bronze. Please forgive my ignorance. Thanks for making me take a second look. Might as well close this thread and chalk it up to an old man not paying closer attention.
Oh, no problem at all. I've been there quite a few times myself...get all excited, start telling people I've found something rare...and then I wake up to reality and throw the coin back into the junk bucket.
Very cool coin. I have collected some Indian coins recently and shown them to my Indian coworkers - we have some good conversations from this.
Actually I just came across this small lot with some better coins included. If not for that goof above, I think I have these squared away pretty good right now. Took awhile to sort out the correct Mints. Still have a few more to do plus try to grade them.
