I don't think it's a cap. Not sure what would cause that.

Wrapped a coin in a cloth of some sort then put it between some wood and clamp it with a vise grip. The coin will bend and leave no signs of tooling right. Also exactly where would a bend like that occur in the minting process? You seem to post a lot of very dubious so called 'errors', which are mostly just pmd coins.

So you say it vise job ? I say it not vise job . It not actually bend , it rise reverse make it look like bend , and it more like bowel shape.

You can see the bend in the coin, the coin has pmd. You can believe what ever you want as usual in your error coin threads though, I'm not going to argue over it.

But I would like to know where or when in the minting process do you think this coin was bent or obtained it's bowl shape if it was a mint error and not pmd?

I am not going argue it with you , if you say it PMD, then it PMD, I have see many PMD coin and error coin in my life, I am not saying i am expert on error but I can still able to see what PMD coin are . If some one make good job on it to fool me I will say nice job .

I would not know the device that causes this. I see no Physical damage. Unless @paddyman98 or @mikediamond have a word or two?

My thoughts are a 3d scanner, Dies cannot be made convex. For this to happen, A third of a the dime would have zero definition obv. and rev.

I am honored to be placed among the levels of the experts.. but I humbly state that I'm not that good at understanding all the errors :wideyed:

I did see this when the OP created the thread and I wanted to respond that in my opinion it was PMD as in bent.
But knowing the OP and his defensive responses, I decided to leave it alone :yack:

Haha paddy I hope you wrong again , but if you right it only cost me $ 2.75 , if you close look at hair above the ear you will see it sunken , it push reverse up and make obverse like slight bowel shape , it hard to see on picture , but anyway you have your opinion , I will send it TPG at some point . here link my win on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-S-Proo...KercTOlSocQ7pUumlt3Hg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
