Okay. I'll play on this very entertaining thread. I roll search and recently picked up 19 rolls of 1971 Kennedy half dollars all shiny spanking new (looking) in which I'm sure are high BU condition. I'm going to keep them regardless but, just curious of their numismatic value. Thanks!

    $25 BWR Cents - Solid 2016 (5th box in a row)

$100 CWR Nickels: 20 dated pre-1960, but nothing exotic

    $50 CWR Dimes: 64-D

I hadn't planned on making any pick ups mid-week, but I'm glad I did. The teller at my local CU handed me $2.50 in grungy silver quarters. :)

I've got $25 in CWR cents to go through and I'll make the rounds again before the weekend to some of the other local banks and see if anything else shakes loose before the new year.

Hmmm, the banks I ordered halves from last week to look through while on vacation this week mistakenly ordered a total of 10 boxes instead of 6. I like mistakes like this!

    $11.50 in teller tray halves 2 Frankies 1 64 and 3 40%ers!

After deep sea fishing my girlfriend and I decided to hit the teller trays only. I scored! She's jealous.

Turns out one of my bank orders of halves (2 boxes) didn't arrive, so I'll do a total of only 8 boxes instead of 10 while on vacation...4 boxes in:

    No silver
    1 chrome plated '94
12 NIFCs including my first 2016

More different marks on coins than I've ever seen! :banghead:

Phew, half boxes 5 and 6 were better:

    1, '51 Franklin
    2, '66
    1, '67
    1, 68
    1, 69

    15, NIFCs
1, 1986 Statue of Liberty Commemorative (clad)
    1, 1982 Balboa
    1, 1986 Dominican Peso

I'm satisfied now even if my last 2 boxes produce nothing :)

    HH all!

    $80 CWR Nickels: Skunk
    $100 CWR Dimes: Skunk
    $19.50 in loose Halves: Skunk

2016 didn't end on a high note with that search, but like any good gambler I think my next big hit is right around the corner. I still need to update my spreadsheet to see how many grungy coins went through my fingers last year... I'd guess easily a couple of hundred thousand. At least it's a hobby that more or less pays for itself.

Happy 2017 Hunting season begins this week! I'm starting it off with a bang, I've order 16 loomis boxes, and will push that many as long as I can each week. That will be a rate of 832,000 coins searched in 2017 this time next year. I added all totals up this weekend with CWR, Teller Searches, and MWR. 302,000 halve dollars searched from April 28- Dec 23. Total silver in Troy ounces: 275
    90s: 460+\-
    40s: 840 +\-
(I would have shot a YouTube for you but someone else beat me to it)

Looking forward to the fun and all your spetacluar finds!

Happy Hunting in 2017 to you too Truble. I didn't get even close to what you got in 2016 but I had fun and made some money while doing so with my CRH silver. I'm too lazy to calculate my 2016 ounces but I can recall it to be 2 1/2 tubes of 90% halves and and 10 tubes of 40% halves. I can't forget the 16 90% dimes I hunted too. I started in February took May and June and half of July off out of frustration then fired it up again. 2017 brings me new challenges. I can only do 4 boxes max a week now. Wells Fargo in my area got rid of all their coin machines and I would have to have a business account to exchange. So that leaves me with another bank and 4 places to dump a week. I am considering opening another account with yet another bank but until then I will be hitting teller trays hard. I'd like to get 60-70 ounces of silver this year and who knows what I'll get with my business trips. Anyways, good hunting to all the other halves people here too!

I must admit I'm concerned about the number of banks removing their coin counters. I think this will further reduce the good finds in boxes of all types of coins. I believe sniping tellers and CRHers requesting rolls will no longer be bypassed, so fewer collectibles will end up being boxed.

    Anyone else have an opinion?

We are down to only one credit union and one bank with coin machine. Otherwise I would not be able to dump all the boxes. I have notice these machines are tightly calibrated and will spit out my silver misses. So any silver dumps at my credit union would always spit out silver. The bank is a FifthThird, three of those with machines in the area.

How silver gets in these boxes has to go through the tellers and then they turn them in to Loomis, Brinks, et al.

I have had some decent experiences on the road when there are no coin machines. In Dallas and San Diego they will accept your dump rolls in bulk. These are Wells Fargos mind you. So when I go on my trips I make sure I stock up on the paper to roll the coins in. I have dumped up to $520 in rolls and they really don't check them much. It's kind of a trust issue which I am cool with and would do anything I could to make sure I don't short the bank. The problem is doing this on a consistent basis. I don't think it would fly.

I think that this can be true, however those customers with the collection they were going to dump will now have to roll their coins themselves which in turn could be good for searching cwr. The silver or whatever older coins they have will now be concentrated in one place instead of having to look through thousands of dollars of fed rolls to find part of the dumped collection.

Agree. I think my strategy with all the Wells Fargos getting rid of their machines will be to teller hunt them and ask for CWR. If they have $500 worth of halves it's usually a dump though.
