The postman was kind to me yesterday and delivered two of my last purchases for 2016. This is the first of the two.

The reverse of this coin illustrates the principle of provocatio, a procedure by which a citizen had the right to appeal to the people against the decision of a magistrate which he considered to be an abuse of official power.

Sadly, I don't have a coin to toss into your cool thread (maybe next year?)

    Cheers

It is a nice coin for sure, and a great way to end the years purchases.
What I find most interesting about this coin is the way the romans used coinage to convey messages and policy to the people - in this case a benevolent message, that of the citizens right of appeal.

May we all have such success in 2017 that we are not remorseful that the post office delivered our final coin this week making it ineligible for our 2017 favorites.

Nice coin and great story. I like the type, but do not have one. I have been waiting for an example with well struck characters like the one on the Tkalec auction shown below.

I think I will change my goal to have one with PROVOCO shown. Nice pick-up.

Anyone know what the star shapes on the tops of their shoes mean?

My last is from London and as of this morning is:
    "ON ITS WAY TOO`HARE (CHICAGO)"

Congratulations, Bing. I think that is an interesting story behind design. Here's mine, ex Haeberlin.
