as I posted last night I elected to "replace" rather then regrade/reslab my 1853 quarter and half for my type set AND managed to get them both for $5 under ngc list lol so Now there will be no empty spaces in my 7070 but I will be looking to upgrade a few of the "detail" pieces now that I can actually afford to do so Anyhoo.. here is the pair I decided on feels good even if I already had these coins to make it "offical" in the registry
Congrats! I am working on a similar set and I'm only a few coins away from completion. Then it will be upgrade /replacement time a few coins. I'm only so- so about.
If you want a peek it can be seen here... https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/363344/?page=2 The Half dollar above (pcgs) will take a few days to process before it's added... the NGC slabs if not already registered to someone else are instantly added. (though it can take 3-4 days at times to clear if the person you bought it from is too lazy to mark it as "sold" lol)
I bought my 7070 book back in the 70’s before encapsulated coins. How do you do it? Take a picture then insert in the space. Ive done a lot of modifications but last 10+ years it’s just sat in the safe deposit, sadly
I love the 7070 Type set! It offers as much or as little challenge as you want, gives you the most complete compilation of US coinage & can be stunning. I'm always updating my personal set
Gold page… Flowing Hair & Draped Bust silver… Pillar dollar… Lafayette… Hawaiian… Philippine… an Alaska Bingle… now that’s a cool “expanded 7070”!
Ya lotta fun and years, toughest was the Bingle. Found it in an antique shop in Stevensville MT. Had to have one after reading Michener’s Alaska book.
Love the 1853 arrows and rays! Nice coin! Here's my VF30 1853-O Arrows and Rays... For comparison, here's a 1854 Arrows only...
I loved Michener’s work. The Source (set in an archaeological site in Israel and also including a coin or two) was one of my all time favorites.
slowly filling in the full morgan set and the PL date set as well as mentioned I plan quite a few "upgrades" in the 7070 but more then anything I will probably be working towards my 19th century circulated type set (considerably more inclusive then the 7070 and even counting all the useable coins from the 7070 and the fact it only includes 65 coins i'm less they 2/3s done) as well as a full type set including modern issues also only about 2/3s finished 19th cent https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/411528/ full typeset (136 coins) https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/411522/
