and that also means that according to some TPGs it's not a 70, which was kind of the whole crux of this conversation.

    basically, yes

I would characterize it more as someone has contradicted themselves enough to have sat on both sides of the fence in this very thread.

I disagree w/Post#121 and so do SOME of the professional graders at ANACS. While I have agreed from the start of this thread that the coin is not my personal seventy due to the tiny mark, it is a perfect example of a market acceptable 70 according to written PCGS/NGC standards and the ANACS slab in the OP. Therefore, in view of the evidence here, your opinion should be questioned. Just as the nonsense some misinformed collector posted earlier: "There is no such thing as a perfect 70."

Ya know Insider, one of these days you're just gonna have to explain who you are and what you do for a living. I believe THAT would go a looooooong ways to helping folks to actually understand most of what you have to say. And believe me, they don't. And that right there is what causes most of, how shall I say it, disagreement.

And if you could ever manage to drop the "wise guy" attitude, well, that would do the rest for you ;)

And don't get me wrong, there IS a time and a place for the "wise guy" attitude. I use it myself on a regular basis. But I ONLY use it when it is appropriate to use it, and with people (friends) who will take it as it is intended - which is in fun.

You do those two things I have suggested in this post and I believe you'll be seen in an entirely different light around here. That is of course assuming you'd like that to actually happen.

PS - I'm considering asking your wife to hit you upside the head with a frying pan, to get your attention, and then asking you to read this post again :)

    PSS - @Big Money :)

    Let's give this another try.
ANACS is not a top tier grading service, and their standards are not equal to NGC or PCGS when it comes to the reverse proofs. There tough to grade because they show everything. I have a complete set of all 13 reverse proofs in NGC 70.(Well 12 in 70) I started with ANACS because they were cheaper to purchase. I wound up returning each one. As it turns out, they are cheaper for a reason. Almost every NGC I purchased Looks great, I did return a few, and even those were better than the ANACS. I have also checked the pop reports on these and NGC has the lease amount of graded 70's. If I were the person who purchased the coin in question here, I would return it.

Now you've gone and done it...I'm not looking forward to her eventually logging on. Think, I'll try to disarm the expected "You're going to get banned for good" tongue lashing by taking her to dinner this week and than confessing before she sees anything.

BTW, I posted this comment to Frank before you "called me and others out" on the other thread! I almost referred to it there to say I had already poked @Treashunt!

Know what should be fun and educational? Post some images of three or four NGC 70's so the members can see what a commercial 70 looks like. ;) Pick your best 70's and let's see if they are perfect.

There are some other variables here. Most of the Mints machinery and methods of producing a product over the last 10 years have changed. Not to mention that most of the work that was done by hand is now a machine. If anyone here has seen any of the videos put out by the Mint? It's hard to believe that any coin could make it through all that machinery without some kind of marking. From the searching I've done, I see a lot of marking in the same exact spots on a wide variety of products.

Nothing really to add except I learned a 70 is a grade of a coin can come as close too perfect as expected with the tooling now available.A most interesting thread read ALL seven pages.Thks for the info ;)

Well truth be told I think she could forego the frying the pan and accomplish the very same thing with just a "look". And I'd bet ya dollars to donuts that you're all too familiar with that particular "look" :D

Now then, you go ahead and take the lady to dinner, I'm certain she deserves it anyway. And not that you deserve to be bailed out, because you don't, but there is no danger of you being "banned for good", unless you really go off the deep end. So she can forego that part of the conversation.

But the "look", yeah, you got that comin pal :) I'm just hoping it does some good ;)

    Very witty.

:( Shucks, I was really looking forward :nailbiting: to seeing some of the NGC 70's you have collected.

I'm not as ageless as some posting here; but I can guarantee back in the 1950's and 1960's there were PR/MS-70's dropping off the crude machinery at the mint in Philly even though the grade didn't exist.

Ya know, while I'll readily admit that I'm older than the dirt that used to rocks and turned into dirt - I for one know a fact that you're older than I am :D
