Hallo my friends. I got this farthing of king George IIII (IV) today. I paid $ 24 for it.
What would you say about the price and grade?

    Thanks a lot.
    Eugene.

I wonder what was going on in Britain at the time?, George was a IIII and so was his successor as William IIII on coins, not IV but IIII.

I dont know much about the farthings. I have a complete set of 1770-1807 1/2D and over half complete set of victoria 1/2D and modest victoria1D set. Guessing you probably got it about the right cost or a little cheaper.

Well, the ancient Romans almost always wrote 4 as IIII rather than IV, as can be seen on their coin inscriptions. I expect the 19th century British mint officials, as proper gentlemen with classically-based educations, were aware of this fact and decided to follow tradition. (After all, they were already using Latin in the coin legends, so why not follow ancient precedent for the numbers?)

!822 Farthing NGC value $18 in VF20, $100 in VF40. (proof is $1400) I would imagine these reflect certified (non-raw) examples.

I would say you did well-congratulations!

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I would grade your coin good VF, and say that you paid almost exactly what it's worth. Appears to be an attractive coin. Congrats.
