I know which coin I would vote for. Do I need to do anything but register at CU to vote?

    Hi Paul,
All you need to do to vote is sign up at CU for username/password

I wish I could tally votes here but it needs to be registered in the poll to make it official.

Wow. Coin B is rapidly coming up from behind! Coin A was way out ahead (like 75+% of the votes for the first several days).

While I cannot yet tip my hand and reveal which coin I bought, I will mention that I initially bought this Antandras, Troas AE for the contest. It was, however, stolen from the dealer at a show in Germany, so I got a refund and ended up buying one of the silver coins you see in the contest, instead. I'm happy with the selection I ended up making (though it is not yet in hand as of this posting).

This one, however, would've been fun to enter in the competition, too, had it been meant to be.

Cool competition ... I tried to vote "A" (I love incuse punches) but I had to sign-up so I bailed (sorry)

Yah, I spend enough life-time on "this" coin-site ... but again, that looks like fun

Cheers to both of you dudes (both coins were a bit flawed, but both of 'em were still totally worthy)

    emoticon cheers too.gif

We did try to bring the Numismatic Gladiator franchise over here, because @Aethelred and I have both moved over here for most of the time now. But Numismatic Gladiator on CoinTalk was a no-go because of that little clause in the CT rules which states:

So even though all NG contestants are voluntarily spending money on themselves, and keeping the coins they bought, and the winner only gets bragging rights and a sigline trophy, it falls afoul of the letter of the law on that one little clause. So NG continues on CU. Too bad we couldn't do it over here, but I understand the strict interpretation @GDJMSP had to stick to in that verdict. And anyway, it's nice to have folks from CT watch (and vote, too, if they also have CU membership).

    Thanks.

Do remember that there was a $25 limit, here! ;)

That's what makes all of these little cointests so fun... and challenging. We've never gone over a $25 limit. In many of the past NG contests, the limit was only $20, and for the NG10 championship (which @dadams won- note the "eagle" trophy in his sigline), the limit on that was only $10! It gets pretty challenging finding something nice within such a cheap budget. But the fun is in that very challenge, and players have to rely on their wits rather than their wallets when everybody has the same cheap budget.

You could always talk to the mods privately and see if there would be a way to work it out over here. Maybe if it wasn't hosted in the Contest section. Like a "Post your $20 coin puchases between 1-7 Jan!"

You know, a couple of people could get together and arrange to coordinate a coin purchase, and then have a poll about which coin we liked better.... That wouldn't be a 'contest,' just a 'poll,' you see.

Since the purchasing was arranged offsite, and the actual contest-contest is running on CU, not here, I see no reason there couldn't be a parallel poll here? I'll leave that up to @dadams (and the mods here). I handed him the Numismatic Gladiator Master of Ceremonies baton. I was the pollmaster for the first ten rounds of Cycle 1 of NG, but now, with my "Epic Treasure Hunting Game" running over here in the Contests forum, I've got my hands full, so NG is Doug Adams' baby now.

If there was a parallel poll over here, it could be like the "popular vote", while the "official" contest over on the CU site could be like the "electoral" vote. ;)

    Vindication is mine!! Yay!

    The "Headless Zombie Cow" triumphs!

'T'was quite the narrow victory, however. A real "squeaker"!

I now have two of these NG trophies. (@dadams is the only other person to win two Numismatic Gladiator contests, but one of his was the championship round in NG10, so one of his trophies is the even-mightier, purple-edged eagle trophy.)

I will add that I broke my own "No Headless Critters" rule with this purchase. I usually avoid ancient coins that have significant design features off the flan (particularly part of any human's face or creature's head). And this one, Coin A here, was not only missing half the cow but all of the dolphin as well. Nevertheless, I liked it very much for the price, and it was really that mill-sail incuse punch that sold me on it. I'm a sucker for the early stuff with those archaic punches. Never thought I'd see one offered for $25. This one had a lot of "meat" on it (pun intended) for the price.

Michael (@Aethelred 's) Coin B was, as the voting showed, a solid selection. It's a much larger coin, too, so had the coins been physically on a desk in front of everyone voting, who knows what the outcome would've been. I saw his coin during my VCoins shopping and even considered buying it myself. It was on my short list.

You did go vote, then? Over on CU? Signed up over there to vote for my coin?

If so, a tip of my hat to you. You'd expressed your voting intentions but I thought you had bailed when it came to registering over there.

I see you've "avatarized" one of your recent additions! Looks good!

Sorry no, I didn't join-up over at the other sight (my coin-vote didn't assist you with your big win)
