Yup. Its too convoluted. They keep it simple. Although I would love for them to start snickering anacs slabs. Especially hotel soaps

Would it though? ICG/ANACS/PCI CAC coins would be quickly snapped up (especially if they sell for lower on the open market) and cracked/crossed to NGC/PCGS. It would give CAC more business (more coins to look at); it would give NGC/PCGS more coins to grade; it would weaken ICG/ANACS/PCI as the best of their coins would be removed from those holders.

How would that be any different than now though?

Given this part: "It would give CAC more business (more coins to look at)" since they can look at more holders than just PCGS/NGC

Then it would be easier to spot quality coins (assuming that CAC means qulaity), making more people confident in considering cracking out/crossing ICG/ANACS/PCI; thus "it would give NGC/PCGS more coins to grade"

Which "would weaken ICG/ANACS/PCI as the best of their coins would be removed from those holders" at even greater rates than currently seen since the process to identify those coins would be simpler.

I hope the piece wasn't silently netgraded for some reason. The coin looks AU to me. I would grade it AU58. How is the luster in hand? By old standards, if a coin did not have the requisite amount of luster, it was no better than XF. The standards have loosened considerably.

You can say that again. I've seen some (literally) lackluster AU58's.

I don't have it in hand yet. Will definitely post pics when I get it. Who knows... may have a scratch or cleaning and they net graded it, but I don't know as of now.

I have seen several in this grade with this amount of luster that sold for $300-400. I just can't afford to bid that high even though I know it is worth at least double.

Looking at the pictures again, it looks like someone sliced Liberty's neck.

I think it's a beautiful coin. The only thing that would cause me to pause would be the crescent color change at the top of the obverse. Reverse looks great.

Not a series I collect so I can't say what it grades, but the luster does look killer for a XF.

    Good luck John!

I wish you the best and hope it pans out. For me there is no greater thrill than cherry picking a nice coin for a cheap price that has been written off by large segments of the numismatic community because of its plastic tomb.

Some discoloration at the obverse top, and some thin scratches. I'm thinking it won't straight grade.... too bad. It's an AU58 IMO and retains great luster. The color is less of a problem than the scratches.

It's a beautiful coin. I agree the scratches will come back AU-58 Details.
Do you think the scratches are from an old cleaning (retoned), because they are on both sides.

The reverse isn't scratched. That's on the holder. But the Obverse is...

So now the question becomes: Flip, keep, or return?

Those scratches certainly don't show in the seller's images. Round trip ticket or keeper?
