We’re spending some time with our daughter, down in Long Beach (Gulfport), Mississippi. We are a short drive away from New Orleans, and plan on driving there sometime. We’re flying back to {freezing} Idaho on January 10th. Is there any coin collector who would like to meet up in Mississippi and/or Louisiana (New Orleans)? Is anyone familiar with any good coin shops in these areas? HAVE A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Oded & Sandy Paz
I live in New Orleans and could meet up. There are a few shops around here. One is pretty standard stuff, but the owner is a great guy and I frequent him. Three others are pretty end and you need to make an appointment to go to two of them. The third is Cohen and sons and has been at the same location since 1898. Pretty cool shop, and it's in the middle of the French quarter not to far away from the old mint.
We would love top meet up with you! Please note that we are not seeking U.S. coins - we are interested in exonumia - tokens, medals, elongated coins, wooden nickels and other stuff that is not made by the U.S. Mint... I assume that the two that need appointments made are high-end U.S. coin dealers...?
Yes, US dealers primarily. The other shop that I frequent quite a bit is Gulf South coins. It may very well be the messiest shop that you will ever see, but the owner and the prices can't be beat. He has plenty other than US stuff as well. I have countless Mardi Gras doubloons as well that I will give to you if your interested.
I do strongly suggest that @Santinidollar and @OdedPaz, and perhaps @Kirkuleez find a way to get together in the Big Easy. All three are some of the finest people in numismatics that it has ever been my pleasure to meet. I'll be at FUN. My son lives in a town named "Laureldale", so we're doing the 17 hour "Laureldale to Lauderdale" run. I live in a little town called Denver, PA. Guess what run happens in August for ANA?
I just LOVE messy shops. You can find lots of "goodies" there. Especially for exonumia enthusiasts. And yes, of course, I love to collect Mardi-Gras-Doubloons. How did you know? I do focus on some subjects / items, such as: * Elongated Coins * Pop-Up (Repousse) Coins * Anything with an Owl on it (in text or pictorial) * Anything with Abe Lincoln on it (in text or pictorial) * Wooden Nickels * Mardi-Gras-Doubloons (I also have some that are not made from Aluminum) * "Sexy" or "racy" exonumia (let your mind run wild with this) * Anything with the word PAZ on it (duh...!) * Jewish related exonumia * Police / EMT / Ambulance / Fire / Emergency Services related exonumia * Any exonumia with "Good Luck" on it I also collect other things, such as: * Scales * Hotel/Motel "Do not Disturb" signs * Airline/Airport Kiddie wings (Junior Pilot / Junior Stewardess, etc.) * Challange Coins And, I'm quite sure I've forgotten some areas of interest... So, when would be the BEST time for y'all to meet?
Hey Guys, Don't know if I ever thanked you for your company and the great lunch, but if I didn't, or didn't show enough gratitude - well, here kit is: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Oded
Pleasure was all mine Oded. Glad you had a good time, but I completely forgot to give you that bag of Mardi Gras doubloons that I had for you.
