masterswimmer A Caretaker, can't take it with me

I have a very small stash of casino gaming tokens for quite some time now. I haven't looked through them since, well, ever. I got them in a box from my uncle when he passed away, and honestly, I don't collect them, don't know anything about them, and never really found them of interest. Until yesterday when I quickly scoured the lot of them, only to find there is one that is .999 silver. Please accept this thread for what it is, and don't make it political.

The one silver token is from the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. So it has value, be it from silver content or from some other collectibility factor. Makes no difference to me. And it is marked as redeemable for ten dollars.

Some of the tokens are the same on both sides, while some are different front and back.

I like the metal tokens as opposed to the clay/ceramic/plastic ones. I remember the days when the slot machines accepted the metal tokens and paid out in those tokens as well. The sound of big payouts with the CHUNK CHUNK CHUNK sound was riveting.

These casino pieces are from my dad when he passed. I'm guessing Foxwoods sells the Dealer button in their gift shop.

The metal tokens were used in slot machines, the chips in table games. Bef0re about 1966, silver dollars were used in the slot machines. Today almost every slot machine accepts and dispenses winning with a paper TITO (ticket in, ticket out) slip printed in the machines themselves, so the metal tokens are obsolete.

I worked at the Tropicana in Atlantic City for 18 years which is why my registry sets are called the Atlantic City Set of Jefferson Nickels. As an avid poker player, I collect casino chips from every casino that I have played at, and some vintage and commemorative chips as well. I have an affinity for all Tropicana stuff because I worked there, and this 1996 Poker Room Grand Opening $5 chip is my favorite of my collection, and the only one I actually have photographed at the moment. I played $4/$8 at Wind Creek casino today in Bethlehem, Lehigh96 goes back to school, lol.

That Foxwoods Dealer button is very cool. I have never seen one with the establishments name on it before.

    Any Mohegan Sun tokens?
I'm sad that they did away with the change dropping on the slots, when I use to win. ;)

The Trump Plaza "coin" is a Silver Strike and there is a group dedicated to the collecting/trading of Silver Strikes. The $10 Silver Strikes are 6/10ths of an ounce and it takes 5 to make 3 ounces silver. I have a few. And I remember when the metal Slot tokens were in use in Vegas. I have just a couple of the clay poker chips and I collected all of these mostly for the memories they provide of some really good and fun times.

I have several casino chips issued by coin clubs for use at their shows. One is actually valued for play while the other..Las Vegas Numismatic Society...is only good on the bourse.

I don't have a decent image of the Reno, Nv chip but here's the Vegas example from 1997. I actually have two examples but the only difference is the serial number.

I also have quite a few of these "checks," as they call them. The ones I got from the Golden Nugget Downtown when it was just a little corner dive before it made its way to the Strip are the ones the most highly sought after.

About 50 of those casino tokens came into the studio recently and I had a few minutes to shoot them. They weren't in the best shape, but most of them sold quickly. Treasure Island (token below) looks like a nice place to visit.

I don’t collect them either but I do have a non-silver Trump Casino Token valued at $1.00. Your dad had some nice looking ones and it’s great that you got them, especially the silver one.

Histman Too Many Coins, Not Enough Time!

I started collecting the $10 Silver Strikes. I made a list off all of those known to be produced from all of the casinos. By the time I was done with the list I became deflated. If you count variations and different mint marks, there are approximately 3,600 of them. Based on my budget of about $500 a month, it would take me 15 years to collect them all. Huf..puff..I don't know if I could do it, so I gave up. :) I do have quite a few though from before doing my research.

Do you have any pictures of them? I'd love to see them.

Oh my, I don't think so. First off, I don't have them with my coins. I have them in the basement somewhere probably among some of my other casino stuff. I'll look and see when I get time. With these iPhones it's a snap (no pun intended) to get one. Harder thing to do will just be to find them, all those boxes we've got down there, lol.

My goal was to try and get at least one $10 strike from each casino. Hard Rock Casino had one series that had four guitars and I wanted (and got) one of each.
