This penny weighs 2.2

    I know the penny is in really bad shape but why would it only weigh 2.22 ... I have a bunch of other pennies that are broken like this one, but they are not as skinny as this one.

    What year is the Cent? If it's post 1982 then it's a copper plated zinc planchet..
    The plating could be exposed and some of the Zinc rotted away inaide making it lighter.

    I found a 1956 D Lincoln Cent that weighs 2.8 .... would it be copper or what?

    Yes, the cent would be copper, and it would not normally weigh 2.2 grams. Most likely, it's either severely thinned or damaged, or the scale isn't properly calibrated.

    Scales good worn but not that much still readable visible thiner
