Snuck this one in under the wire. 1901 10c NGC PR64. I tried the @johnmilton strategy of placing a "live proxy" bid after the auction started, and I guess it worked but who knows for sure. There were a few strong bids before the auction but nobody was bidding live on anything. I figured as much, given that it's New Years Eve. Not a stellar deal but I was willing to go ~$100 more.

A bittersweet purchase. This completes my set of Barber dime transition varieties, which I have been slowly working on for five years. There were two reverse types in proof during 1901, and this is the later version with the extra fold / thick right ribbon end.

This is my PR63 with the 1900-1901 "thin ribbon" reverse type, purchased last year.

My project for 2025 is to see if ANACS (or possibly ICG?) will attribute these varieties. Nobody currently does, although NGC has one of them in their Variety Plus but has an image that is not the type they describe. To collect one of each for a year/mint where an anomaly occurs requires 21 coins. I now have them all. I suppose I might upgrade a few down the road.

    Happy New Year!

I won this 1893 IHC in the latest Great Collections auction to replace a lower grade one in my No Respect, No Respect at All NGC registry set. I still have a few more dates to upgrade before calling it completed. 1893IHCo.jpg 1893IHCr.jpg

Congratulations! I've been following the discovery & identification of these varieties in the BCCS Journal and it's nice to see real world examples of them. Nice accomplishment.

It's nice to know that someone reads the articles! I've gotten used to the fact that there's never any feedback and you get the impression that it just falls into a black hole. It's all very esoteric, which makes it enjoyable for me, and easier because not many collectors are looking for this sort of weird stuff. I do know that one of the BCCS guys has all of the 15 different quarter combinations for 1900 quarters, so we're out there, lurking... :)

One of these days I'll put all the dimes into a thread here. A goal for 2025 perhaps.

Oops. Clicked to fast. This is my coin from Heritage's New Years Eve auction. I place it as a Fortin 112. Heavy clashed obv. dies and the only 1854 Philly coin without a Very High Date placement. $85.00 + juice and fees. James
