You might try NGC. Not having seen the coin, I can’t give an opinion, but neither of the grading services is right about the “cleaned” verdict 100% of the time. I had an 1839-O half dollar which NGC called “cleaned” but PCGS graded AU. The coin had only been dipped; it had not been cleaned at all.
A very nice, very original 1880 $20 . . . It's unusual to find this date at all, let alone unmolested.
I quit submitting to ngc/pcgs, but purchased many of their "cleaned" coins that I consider improperly graded!
I think you'll find most folks here do not have multiple Liberty Head double eagles lying around, if they have any at all. Here is my one and only.
Well my only example is by default then, my favorite. But it seems to have had a much broader presence in the collection. As has been said, “one thing”…. “leads to another. And another.” Anyway. Not much chance I’m going to complete the quartet with the $2.5 as that’s a tough nut to crack. So yeah. Why? I don’t collect any of these types. I don’t know. For some reason the $20 spoke to me. It was shiny? Rick L.
