    LUCANIA, Thourioi. AR Nomos

    Circa 400-350 BC
    Diameter: 21 mm
    Weight: 7.35 grams
Obverse: Head of Athena right, wearing helmet decorated with Skylla holding rudder over shoulder
Reverse: Bull butting right; below, dolphin right in waves
Reference: HN Italy 1794b; SNG ANS 1048
Other: 8h … VF, toned, rough

SIDENOTE: I love the sweet coins from Lucania ... they're nice big AR babies with very cool artistic style ... and although I was on a tight coin-budget during 2016, I scored this beautiful addition with an entry-bid, so I was thrilled when nobody else wanted to jump on-board (I love the obverse & reverse of this pleasing coin)

Yeah, I have to be honest with you Stevex6, I'm not sure that coin really fits in with your collection, it just doesn't seem "you".

Luckily there is a solution. I'd be willing to take it off your hands for... let's say $20? No need to thank me, I'm just a swell unselfish pal.

LOVE it!!! That Nomos definitely prefers the 'milder' climate of the US eastern seaboard;):D

I really like this coin. I am the same about you with Animals on coins, I love their depiction. This is another great one with a Bull.

I wish today ALL coins had ALL political figures (past or present), removed from coins and only depicted Ideals or cool animals.

Another great coin. I really would like to have one of these, but mainly for the ridiculously cool helmet with the Skylla... It's just such an over the top design! I realise an alternative is to just try and buy a helmet like that so I can actually wear it, but as it is I have trouble getting my four year old to take me seriously half the time.

Z-Bro => 4 year olds love "all" hats ... just dance around and act silly and you'll be a total winner!! (I've always lived that life-model)

Wow => "both" of those are such amazingly cool ideas, eh?

=> yup, there will definitely be some sort of combination for this year's Canada Day croquet drunk-off!!

   ;)

Each Steve coin gets more and more interesting. I predict great things are yet to come (excellent chance since i remember several of his posts from this year).

SIDENOTE: I purchased this winner right at the end of the 2016 coin season ... I put-down a decent bid thinking that I'd certainly be CLIO'd, but voila => I won the sweet prize!! (I think this baby has great eye-appeal ... great portrait and outstanding reverse)

=> Alexandria, clad in elephant skin headdress (man, that never gets old, eh?)

I just can't imagine the personnification of Alexandria arriving in north Manitoba just wearing an elephant skin. Poor thing, someone should tell her how it is !!

    Again, a wonderful acquisition @stevex6

I may not collect bronze, but I'd be willing to give up one of my sweet silvers for a coin like yours. It's got so much eye appeal that I'm quite jealous...in a good way.

Lawyer => I really like your coins ... hmmm, but I have no idea why you don't want to collect bronze, copper, or lead coins? (why are you such a silver snob?)

Hey, I like silver too, but I know enough to also appreciate coins of "different" alloys ... are you an alloy judger? (hey, try not to judge a whole denomination because of their alloy)

    just jokes, coin-bro ... keep-up the good coin-work

(don't get all fish on me) ... cheers

Yeah, I've been rethinking the whose silver only-thing, especially now that I'm starting to get more and more into billon coins.

So let me announce here and now that this year I am expanding into bronze and other metals. I can't justify my silver-only stance anymore.

I've been dying to find out what a big chunky sestertius feels like in the hand.
