I already like #10 and #9 very much. I prepare myslef for the show the following days ! Keep'em comin' Q
This series is one where you have to decide which faults to accept and which are deal breakers. Looking at Steve's set so far, I see that he has a major requirement for Nike having her head on flan. Many of these do not. He is less hard on the legends. Most probably do not realize just how hard it is to get some of these with full city name and it seems that a lost first letter is more common than not. I suspect that as soon as he gets the full set, the upgrade process will begin, one letter at a time.
I'm not that big on upgrading ... I'm more of a "settle for and then move-on" type of fella (I'll probably start/finish another side-collection) ... ummm, but let's worry about finishing this collection first, shall we? (it's certainly gonna be difficult to find my unicorn-coin => hopefully 2017 will be a lucky year)
Just another typical night at the stevex6 household ... => Santax6 ... ummm, a bit of alcohol may have been involved
(December 18th) #8 Sabina, wife of Hadrian. Augusta, AR Denarius 128-136/7 AD Struck circa 128-134 AD Diameter: 20 mm Weight: 2.9 grams Obverse: SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P P, diademed and draped bust right, hair in plaited coil on crown of head Reverse: Anepigraphic, Venus standing right, seen from behind, leaning on column with shield behind, holding reverted spear and helmet Reference: RIC II 412 (Hadrian); Strack 363a; BMCRE 920 (Hadrian); RSC 89 Other: Sweet and Rare SIDENOTE: Again, this is sort of a "group winner", for Sabina was in a pool with several other chick-coins and I decided that I was only gonna be entering one of them in the final pageant ... the other four lovely ladies included my most expensive purchase of 2016, Magnia Urbica ... plus, Julia Paula, Orbiana and Severina (who are all beautiful ladies)
I loved that coin when you first posted it and still do : what a style ! And that reverse type is a favorite of mine Q
Thanks Q ... yah, me too However, all 5 of those chick-coins are considered 2016 winners ... I certainly don't regret buying any of them (2016 budget-money well spent) => but Sabina wore her best hair and stole the show!! ... yah, all four of the other girls seemed a bit rattled that Sabina won!! Hey, perhaps you guys could give your opinions on who should have won => 2016 Miss Rome? (I usually love hearing your coin-opinions)
Even though you added 4 coins to your #8 (a bit of cheating on your part, uh !) I still like Sabina the most Q
Wha? ... are you judging me, my dear ol' coin-friend? I am merely narrowing-down the field so you dudes might eventually guess which of my 43 coins is gonna be my favourite (I do this for you my friend, not for personal gain!!) Oh, but moving forward, I will no longer add more than the daily coin (I will listen to the coin-crowd)
You under-estimate me ... before your post, I may have tried to insert of few of last year's winners as well!! Cheers, Q-dude (Qude)
Oh, but I'm still a bit interested in what you other coiners think ... => did I pick the correct lady for today's #8 position, or did I miss the real Miss in the bunch?
I LOVE that Sabina denarius!!! Terrific reverse, wonderful centering and overall eye-appeal...and the wear and toning are 'just right' !!!! A lovely 'style' to boot!
I love it! You know how much I like those Venus Victrix reverse types! I still don't have one of Sabina, such as yours.
I agree with @Cucumbor (LOL, Q, Q-Dude, Qude, Cuke, Cuke-Dude...), Sabina is the winner. I am amazed at all the complicated hair-styles that Roman women wore!
I really like the reverse of the Sabina, but have to admit to preferring your Julia Paula just a tad more. I probably just have a soft spot for crazy Elagabalus's poor cast-off wife. Oh wait, that makes her the lucky one, doesn't it? Anyway, they're all great! I love the Magnia Urbica too.
Agreed. How could he have traded his beautiful wife for a mere vestal virgin. At least he paid the price, like most third century emperors...
