1956 D/D And 1954 S filled 9 on date

    I found these a few years ago when I bought a bag of unsearched pennies from a coin shop. I went back and told the guy what I found, he wasn't too happy.. ..there were a bunch of 1909s and some cool key dates in there too. It was a good haul.

    What kind of error is the 1954 filled date called ?

    It's called "a chip in the old die." :)

    @eddiespin Thank you very much :). Are Cuds and Die Chips the same thing?

    No. Cuds are just breaks anywhere in the die. Chips are when a raised piece of the die used to impress into the coin had chipped off and is no longer there to do that. That's why that "9" is filled in.

    That's called a "BIE." It's a chipped off area in LIBERTY.
