Not a paper money guy or collector myself but currently looking @ a silver certificate autographed by Eddie Arcaro. They are not asking a whole lot - $150.00. It is a Series 1935-E and am thinking this note is from the 1950s. Do you think it would make any real difference in value if the autographed note could be traced back to 1941 or 1948? If so what series and serial number sequences should I look for?
Wasn't familiar with the guy so I looked him up. Famous jockey. I would think you need to talk to autograph collectors, as paper money people would view that as damage.
The autograph will contain more value than the note itself will. To a collector of paper money the note is interesting but it is considered damaged.

Thanks - I am going to pass on the autographed note. Recently for some strange reason I have started a collection of Triple Crown Memorabilia. Working backwards from Justify - I have autographs of all the Jockeys starting with Mike Smith back to Ron Turcotte (Secretariat). Eddie Arcaro was just next in line but his autograph is fairly prolific. I think I'll wait for something else. If the silver certificate could be traced to 1941 or 1947 - I would have probably pulled the trigger. After Eddie - I think its going to get kinda tough and I'll have to be less selective.
Unfortunately, for the most part any writing on the note is considered graffiti and actually hurts the value if graded but might be able to squeeze out a slight premium in the raw...good luck.
