I added a 1696 3 Kreuzer coin from the German State of Silesia - KM# 816, to my collection earlier this year. I remembered reading about the bust that the engraver used for this and several other coins with Leopold I that resulted in Leopold being called "hogmouth". Recently, when I saw a picture of Donald Trump on the web I recalled the bust on the coin, so I juxtapositioned them. No politics involved, just an interesting observation.
I'm certain you could do a top ten. I'm waiting to do mine...just in case something really awesome pops up in the coming weeks. I think these types are super cool and I like how yours has a bit of toning to it. Dolphin riders are awesome! Good score!
My favorite, or at least one of, is a coin that goes with my Roman plumb bob. Roman Republican silver Denarius, Rome, 78 BC Obv - Head of Liber r., wearing ivy-wreath Rev - Ceres in biga of snakes r., holding torch in each hand; behind, control mark (plumb bob); in ex. M. VOLTEI. M.F. RRC 385/3
2016 has been a great year building on my collection , it is extremely difficult to just post one coin that is a favorite . As a collector in this hobby you learn a lot. This coin was a bitter sweet pick ,as what I believed to be an ultra rare specimen turned out not to be...... however I learned two lessons #1 don't trust one published reference as being correct , #2 trust your eye and knowledge you have learned over the years you have been collecting ..... that's said my favorite 2016 purchase a 1829 Half Dime. She's dark and mysterious ..... most of all classic !
Not a fan on ancients too much, but I do contracting and anything tool related I like, care to share some more information about that plum bob?
@Jdiablo30 I ran across something advertised as a Roman plumb bob in an auction a couple of years ago. I bought it because it looked interesting and I remember using one with my dad many years ago. I found a web site for plumb bob collectors on line and determined mine was old, but could not prove it was Roman. While researching coins on line, I saw a coin with the plumb bob symbol. I did some research and discovered several Roman Republican coins had a plumb bob on them. I decided I had to have one. After a couple of years looking and a few $, I bought one this year. the first one I sw on line. I have posted on the subject here several times. Search for plumb bob using my name and a dozen or more posts will be listed. Or you can go to my blog and see more of the same - http://rrdenarius.blogspot.com/2015/03/plumb-bobs-on-roman-republican-coins.html Three Roman weights, two plumb bob and one scale
