Example 1: KM#54; 1953, 1954, 1957, 1963...one each. NGC offers a variety of notes about this series that I don't understand. The '53 is apparently without a mint mark...but I can't see a mint mark on an y of the other 3...or don't know where or what to look for. One of the notes mentions a 'strap'...without any other hint. Yet another has notes about wire-rim or flat-rim...but again, I cannot tell which mine are, an' I've looked hard. Somewhere there are notes about '1 waterline' an' '3 waterlines'...but as with the others, I can't see the differences. There's no question that I'm grossly ignorant in these nuanced matters...I humbly ask your patience an' assistance in pointing out where to look, an' what to look for on these 4 coins. Sincere Thanks for all your comments...an' thanks for lookin'!
To me knowledge there was never a mint mark on any Canadian dollars, so I have no idea why someone would put "no mint" on the envelope. I also have no idea what "wire/flat rim" means. Both of these sound like someone whose knowledge is polluted by YouTube videos. There are short water lines (SWL), no water lines (NWL) and Arnprior varieties for various years, involving some or all of the water lines right of the canoe being polished off. The shoulder fold /strap (SF) no shoulder fold/strap (NSF) on the dollars was just 1953, involving changing the relief due to strike issues, but not much value difference until the high MS grades.
There's also a ton of info here https://www.saskatooncoinclub.ca/articles/08c_1-dollar_varieties.html and other pages on that site. I also like the Calgary Coin site https://www.calgarycoin.com/modern/canada.htm for the interesting blurbs under most dates.
some more recent one may have but between 1908 and 1908 the only Canadian coins stuck by the mint with mint marks was $4.86 2/3 gold piece
