Yah, this is my second conquest from today's sweet auction ... Hmmm, sure I admit that I may have got caught-up in a wee bit of auction-trigger-finger?!! => but after I've stretched and got over the hammer-price, I'm super pumped about this second addition ... it's a very neat coin EGYPT, Alexandria. Antoninus Pius. Æ Diobol AD 138-161 Dated RY 5 (AD 141/2) Diameter: 23 mm Weight: 9.71 grams Obverse: Laureate head right Reverse: Apis bull standing right, head facing; before, altar; above, L Є (date) Reference: Köln 1383; Dattari (Savio) 3089; K&G 35.174; Emmett 1737.5 (R3) Other: 12h … dark green patina with earthen highlights/deposits, a few scratches on the reverse, holed in antiquity. Rare
Oh sorry ... it's not only gorgeous in appearance, but it's also my first "holed" coin ... "and" it was holed in antiquity, which made me a bit coin-horny and therefore the reason that I chased and scored this baby!! super cool
I had one coin from the auction 'yelling' at me as well, but forgot to bid! I wish there was a snipe program for CNG.
To quote our dear leader: That coin is definitely a 7. She used to be a 10 , but then she got herself pierced. Believe me! Fantastic!
nice thick coin...very attractive color, cool bull reverse....WIN! is the hole plugged? does it still have a chunk of nail in it or something?
My coin budget has been running on empty for awhile now, so I didn't participate in the auction, but I did scan the catalog and see your name on this one. Congrats! I think I like it even better than the Hadrian win. The Apis bull is simply very cool.
=> I'm assuming that there is merely old ancient crud-mud filling the holes? ... oww, but maybe I got a free bonus-nail with today's score?!
Please post any relevant examples ... holed coins, bull coins, A-Pius coins, etc (if you feel like it)
