I just about fell out of my chair when I saw this coin, and not for good reasons. Let's see if you all agree with me. What would you grade this 1964 Washington Quarter?

I have to go with 65. A few too many, but small, bag marks. Is that a die crack on Washington's neck? How significant is the doubling on the motto? It's a beautiful coin and the toning adds to it. :)

I'm going with 65 as well. Love the toning.:)

MS 67+ (bumped for color; likely closer to an MS 66)

MS 64 too many contact marks to go any higher imo.

I have to recuse myself because basic research turned the coin up immediately, but I will say I completely agree with you.

Was, this a coin you sold? Possibly in a much lower grade than it is graded at now?

Isn't that wear on the eagle's right wing feathers?

I think not, if you're referring to the "darker" areas. It's a nice frosty coin to begin with, and those are just incidental-handling places where the frost has come off.

I don't know that much about this series... why do the feathers on the reverse look so undefined? Weak strike?

Is the amount of surprise on the assigned grade due to this factor?

    MS64 for my guess.

As I understand it...the 1964 quarters are prone to having a weak strike. The produced 1964s for a long time and I would assume they ran the dies as long as they possibly could to keep costs down.

MS-64, some noticeable dings on the reverse. I cannot be sure, but looks like there is a nice die crack on bust (above the date) and on the reverse, behind TES OF A.

There is also die polished mostly in front of the eagle and on the back.

    Nice toning
