It probably starts with not continuing to throw hay into the stall. ;)

You want to see Post #327. The fact we realize that and are still here should tell you we're not all motivated by hate. Take me, for instance. I'm here for the OP's question. Call my motivation a pardonable curiosity. :)

These days that would be considered inhumane.

There already is a $100 Morgan coin it's a pattern called the Union.

Yes. The obverse design was found in George Morgan's sketch book in the Smithsonian and a private company started striking them in 2005 in various weights of 999 gold & Silver. A reverse design was not found so they used a generic eagle reverse. Fyi, had that coin been produced back in the day it would have been 5oz of 90% gold

If I understand correctly, you wish to bleach a $100 dollar note and then print your own $100 note over the bill? If that is correct you are fine, as long as you do not sell it as genuine or spend it.

I would have no problem with him signing his work, as long as it did not ruin the look. Say on the edge.

    Because I don't want to.
I want to alter existing genuine coins rather than making new ones. This puts them in a class similar to "hobo" nickels, love tokens, and the like.

The $100 Union is sponsored by the Smithsonian. The picture does not do it justice, it's a beautiful coin.

I think some people are putting way too much importance into this subject and thread. There are over 40,000 members, with many reading but seldom posting, check the number of individual members posting now in this thread or others similar, and you will see that most members do not care or post about it. And saying hate or love a member is not the point. Many do not like the issue, many do. But I don't doubt if every poster here was in a conference room and he arrived to speak, that few would rush up and kiss him ,nor would many boo and walk out. They would stay to listen to the discussions. Do NOT try to use the forum for a 'mano a mano' battle ground. Discussions Yes, but keep it honorable.

Of interest regarding those Unions is that they were also forced to remove the denomination off them for running afoul of the law and thus only the earliest few issues have a denomination.

2005 and 2006 have One Hundred Dollars on the reverse. 2007 to 2016 do not. How do I know? I have them all.

Isn't there a Barber unreleased double eagle also ? (Privately minted.)

They were struck for two years (in 2005 and 2006) with the "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS" denomination. The Smithsonian Institution endorsed them and NGC certified them, although they were privately minted and marketed.

These were not over-strikes. In no way were they actually legal tender. Had they struck them over legal-tender US Mint $100 platinum eagle coins, that might be different.

What is your evidence that they were "forced" to remove the denomination ?

    PS:
Here are pictures of the front and back of one:
