There are several pups that will still be visible with this amount of wear. One was just posted on CCF recently with about the same amount of circulation wear and still showed the die polish lines in the LIBERTY motto and doubling on the reverse UNITED STATES. Looking forward to seeing better images.
I didn't get a chance this morning to post better pictures. I didn't even realize what I had until I did research.
Are you sure no one has removed a MM from that coin? I cannot tell from your pictures except that there is something there be it a nick or ??
Sorry I was posting a few pictures that people had asked for. The knick is a die gouge that the 1894 Philadelphia Morgan's are supposed to have from what I gather. I'm new to this.
It's one of three things. 1.It is not authentic or had the O MM removed, by someone who's good at that. 2. It is authentic and you found that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! 3. The person that sold you this is very misinformed on Morgans, or doesn't care. I don't know you from Adam, but something doesn't seen right? Keep in mind this is one of the more forged dates. I just can't think of a situation where a coin shop would sale an authentic cleaned 1894 P Morgan for 20$? I'm really baffled by this.
I bought this private party at a yard sale with a few others for $20 a piece. I'll buy anything old. I didn't realize at all what this was until I researched it online. I took it to a local coin dealer to see if it in fact was real because I also saw there was a bunch of counterfeits out there.
Didn't realize you were referring in your previous post to the die scratch near the foot, as your detail image shows. I see no glaring reason not to think it genuine. And if we take your explanation at face value, well, like HAB 28 said, it's a neat world and stuff like this happens some times.
Went to the We Buy Gold shop today. It's not a VF cleaned 1894 P, but I was happy to buy these three Morgans for $50 total. I apologize for my crummy quick iPad photos. And how could I pass up a Stone Mountain half for $8?
Man, I've got to start frequenting the we-buy shop near my house. At this point, though, I'm probably behind a line of twenty regulars.
