Ya gotta love this forum. What started out 23 pages ago about "Question about Daniel Carr offering", has turned into a discussion entirely different than what it started out to be.

Can't we all just get along? (to coin a phrase) Let's just agree to disagree and go back to talking about coins and currency.

That's basically what I was wondering too. Is there a legal concern because they have a denomination and are very similar to actual US coinage. Could you be accused of minting new coins...and thus counterfeiting?

I agree with you. But that apparently just isn't going to happen.

Once you own a coin, you can do what you want with it as long as you are not trying to make, say a $2.50 Indian into a $5.00 Indian to make the extra profit. That's why Hobo Nickels, drilling holes in coins to use as jewelry, stamping Lincoln on a Kennedy Half and Kennedy on a Lincoln Cent, etc. is legal. A 1964-D Morgan Dollar was changed from some other Morgan Dollar. The 1964-D was never made by the U.S. Mint. IMHO what Daniel does is similar to the above listed things done to coins.

Besides, I like my 1964-D fantasy Morgan, it's better struck, has better eye appeal, has absolutely no bag marks, etc. than any other Morgan I own. It makes me happy to look at and there's not a lot left in this old world that I can say that about (not counting my family).

They're as close as the vast majority of us will ever come to owning MS/PF 69 versions

Well surely it is. But then if it's legal to turn original $100 notes into imitation $100 notes, as Dan is turning original $1 coins into imitation $1 coins, how do you know I'm not using original $1 notes instead of original $100 notes, bleaching those out, and using those as my blanks? So you let me do what Dan is purportedly doing, but with $100 notes, you give me an opportunity to really take advantage. That's kind of the point I was trying to make.

But, he's not changing the denomination. His argument is...he's taking an existing coin and altering it, but it in the end it's still the same thing it was before. That's not what you are proposing.

I propose, that when the first member posts their new DC PL 1964 Morgan, that instead of arguing over the legality and blah blah blah, we just copy and paste all of these posts from this thread into the newest one. That way we save a bunch of time not having to repeat ourselves.

And also we should put either "DC Lover" or "DC Hater" in our signatures, so we know who to disagree with on future topics, that may or may not have anything to do with Carr's work.

Hmm. Some of CoinTalk likes his work. Others dislike it. Some could care less. Im no psychiatrist, but it is almost like we use Carr's work as a means to vent our political frustrations in place of not being able to discuss politics*.

I wish I had a Phd. You bunch would make for a great social experiment. I might be a lowly business owner and mechanic but the human mind still is fascinating to me and I am simply writing down what's on mine. Carry on.

*Disclaimer: This is not an invite nor a plea to discuss politics. I have learned my lesson and do not wish to discuss such matters here. Again I am simply making an observation.

    SJW? LOL.

There's always room for non sequiturs, I guess...

I'm afraid his "1975" quarter, half and Ike restrikes invalidate that point.

But so am I not changing the denomination. Don't you trust me?

But do you see? The government would never let me do with my $100 notes what he's doing with his $1 coins. But they're not interested in him. Why? Supposing he put "One Hundred Dollars" on the reverse of that Morgan, are they still not interested in him? What do you think?

Do it to a hundred all you like. A $1 Santa Clause bill for instance is still legal tender and can be spent as such but it can sell for $5-10 on eBay so why spend it as a $1 at a gas station for instance. What you are infering in your hypothetical is very different and you know it.

But that's totally irrelevant because that's not what he's doing. If you want to discuss that...why not discuss his counterfeit cloud business.

No. Why not make a fantasy $100 Morgan?

Here's a thought for all the anti-DC guys. Do you realize how much free publicity he's getting. I wonder how many people have discovered him because of threads like these. If you really have a problem with what he is doing...why do you promote it so much?

What is the proper procedure for taking a thread out behind the barn and shooting it?

We've heard this a thousand times. Doesn't really matter to me. I'll continue to make my point that he should sign all his work. And as I've said before, I have often wondered if he revels in the drama...

We're at the typical 25 page point where a couple guys lose their minds and the thread gets locked. Who will strike first with an inappropriate comment? The Shadow knows!
