Cheerful? Just means that we are getting old.
The older we get the more candles on the cake and less presents to go around.

Ok, I'll enter round 4 but for @SensibleSal66

Here is an are some pics of Fort Zachary Taylor in Key West. I have visited this one twice, once in the 70s while it was being excavated/renewed, courtesy of being in the Navy there then for a short time and being assigned a 'work day' there and then later when it was improved and once in the 2010s when it was 'completed' including having the area around it dredged and filled in, so that it was no longer 1200 feet from shore, which was done on a family visit there. So neat to see the difference 35 years later.

Yeah, no, I could not move those 125 pound cannon balls (somehow I have a memory of being told that was what they weighed, and of course they were dead weight), and they soon found out that a few of the women who were assigned to 'work' may have started bringing their bathing suits and sunning themselves.

As an aside, in the mid 1970s when I was on the base, work days were assigned to people who did not have a permanent place to go and so I did things like this. The two jobs I most remembered in this portion of my time there was holding a counter clicker at the Navy Exchange to count the number of persons coming into the exchange in a day to this day at Fort Taylor. I liked this day better than the counting exchange patrons duty but because of the number of women who could basically not do anything at the fort, and possibly because of a larger possibility of sailors becoming hurt from exploring a fort that had it's issues over time and who could not actually 'work' (I basically explored what I could this day), this one became a no-go for them.

Top to bottom, images from the early days (civil war) to present. The first one is a painting of how it was in the 1860s or so, the second, an aerial view from about the 50s or 60s, showing it off shore, the third is one showing the cannon excavation, and the last two are more current ones, aerial and inside as visitors can see it. As of 2010s, there were still some roped off areas (rooms/areas) because they are unstable for visitors to be in, so the entire fort is not actually to be 'seen'. I did not include any pics between the original era and the 50s/60s, so I am unsure of how it might have looked in the earlier half of the 1900s.

Strike this!!! "I am now looking at the weight of cannon balls online (thanks, google!) and evidently I was severely misinformed back then on how much those weighed. Seriously. Can't seem to find any civil war cannon ball that would have weighed that much" UPDATE, evidently there were some used that weighed 120 lbs or so, as the 10 inch Columbiad cannon, shot a 128 lbs round. So I don't know if that was the type used at this fort.

I would like to enter for round four, because large cents feel like money.
Cheery note: I am tickled pink with my latest thrift shop find. I was born in Germany (Army Brat) and lived in Europe for 10 years. My parents often took us to the Black Forest for a week every summer we were there. Brand new, I paid $150 for this clock.

That’s cool. I was stationed in Germany for three years and everyone I knew collected clocks like that.

I'm at work- and should be working- but I don't feel like it. It's quiet, anyway.

So why don't we have another drawing? Round 4 has run for two days now.

Let me step out for just a sec. When I come back, we'll have the drawing.

Welcome to CoinTalk, @Rajee Pandi. Since you just joined us, and that was your first post, I’ll make this post a bonus entry for you, to give you two chances in the drawing that’s just about to happen. That will double your odds.

TIME FOR THE ROUND 4 DRAWING!

    Our lucky number was... 155!

    upload_2024-12-11_1-46-50.png

And Post #155 was by @Abramthegreat... on behalf of @masterswimmer !

    To which I replied...
Ha! That's exactly what just happened! @masterswimmer won for @Abramthegreat in Round 2, and now @Abramthegreat returns the favor and wins one for @masterswimmer in Round 4! :hilarious:

Coingratulations, @masterswimmer ! You have won Lot #4!

I shall need your shipping address. Pretty sure I have it saved somewhere, but you can let me know in the private message I'm about to send out. Just to be sure I'm current on that.

Please be sure to post to this thread after you have received your prize. We will all be interested to know what your "mystery" prizes were, as well!

(Not even I can entirely remember what went into the presealed envelope in that portion of your prize lot.)

    Round summary in Post #1.

There will also be some additional "mystery prize" items.

To enter this round, all you need to do is:

    1. Say that you want this lot, and
    2. post something else coin-related or cheerful.

Then, sometime in the next 2-4 days (depending on my schedule), we'll do the drawing and move on to the next round.

You may of course say you want it for someone else, if you name that person.

    Round summary in Post #1.
