Just got this cool coin today on eBay for $ 3.5 dallor . I think i got supper deal on this coin , what kind error are you call this?
That is called a NON Error It's Damaged. Someone took some of the Copper Plating off $3.50.. you got ripped off
i just found similar one on Ebay , do you think it same kind error ?http://www.ebay.com/itm/252674427063?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I would ask how an original, as-struck surface can be so badly pitted as the coin presented here. By comparison, the Ebay coin linked presents original Mint strike smoothness. The difference is rather stark, and indicative of the corrosive process which resulted in your coin. Have a look here: http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-co...n-the-error-collectors-clearinghouse.all.html Pay particular attention to points #2 & 3.
maybe my phone picture was not clear , i thinks it original struck , it look much better on hand , but if i was wrong it only cost me $ 3.5 dallor anyway .
The price is ridiculous! $719.99 No way that type of error is worth that much. On Ebay a seller can put whatever price they want. That seller is crazy to list it such as. He will never sell!
I believe this is a genuine error. I have seen "bullseye" patterns of incomplete plating on other coins. In some, it seems to have been deposited in this manner. In others it appears to represent pre-strike/post-plating planchet damage. I can't tell from here which cause to assign to your specimen. But you got a bargain.
Wow THANK Mike , that what I saw this genuine ERROR , I found one on BU too , but only one side and only little and not much cool looking compare this one
I dont know how much those type error worth , but i know it not cheap i have not see many those type error must be rare , i saw another one on sell on ebay for 9,999 http://www.ebay.com/itm/191475000156?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT i think my one are much cool looking bullseye .
I have almost a full roll of 2011D (Bank Roll) that have this plating Error. Some Have full peripheral some are spotty. Nice find OP.
Well, what can be said? Send it in to NGC if you're so sure about its authenticity then post the results.
I will send it to NGC or PCGS , I am not trying to sell it , it will be on my collation for long long time.
If Mr. Diamond didn't reply, I would have to say, that this was a PMD coin, because of the circulation. @Kevin wu can I post a few picks of the 2011D I found? When I find them?
Sure pickin post what you found , by the way it not cirulation coin , it might look like but it was BU coin .
The only way for that coin to be as-struck is for it to have corroded considerably since the moment of strike. The surfaces are pitted; the rims eaten down. I'm guessing Mike factored that likelihood (and it is a likelihood, since it's zinc we're talking about here) in to his opinion.
Correct me if I am wrong. but, I don't believe that the mint, took very good care of the Zinc core. The final coat of copper (in layman's terms) fills the voids in the zinc blank. This I believe would also have reason to why the zinc core on the OP's coin looks corroded. Its a pleasure, to talk with you again @SuperDave
Well, here's the Ebay coin linked earlier: The zinc is in much better condition, and I can easily see this one is as-struck.
