Top 10 of 2016 (zumbly's list)

I get heartburn just looking at those numbers. And I don't want to know what @panzerman paid for his coins. I'll have a heart attack.

The way I see it, #1 could split in half and be #1 and #2. #10 is a nice example of the early style of these. #3 has all four horses, decent centering and is well struck. Winner. Prices always choke me up even when someone else is paying them.

 

I choked when I got the bill on a few occasions myself, but then just sucked it up and paid the man. I'll go further and admit that was more the case for some coins that didn't even end up on this list. Now, if anyone needs me I'll be working on my Thrifty List, and trying to figure out how to get my GPS set to lead me on my path towards Binghood .

I can only judge the Greek as Roman prices are a mystery to me. Some Roman price tags with lots of zeros though at the current NAC sale of which I have just witnessed the first part during my stay in Zurich. Got invited to the auctioneer's dinner though in spite of never lifting my hand. That is what I like about these guys, they are real gentlemen, and generous ones at that.
So, the Gortyna (#1) is easily my first choice for value for money among the Greek, followed by the Caulonia Nomos. I really like the detail on this one although, having never collected Western, I cannot say much about its rarity. The little Eion comes next, a close third I'd say and then the Tarentum. What I like about this one is the detail on the figures, especially the facial features.
Generally speaking I do not think you overpaid for any of the Greek and this because they all have that special appeal, each one for different reasons, that will make sure you will never be bored with them.

 

I enjoyed going through the NAC catalogs for yesterday's auctions, particularly the collector's own comments. I watched parts of the auction but didn't participate... most of the coins were way over the comfort zone of my wallet, especially this late in the year. Many of them were exceptional, and I'd be surprised if some members here did not come away with one or two nice prizes.

 

The crusty croc is my favorite!
