@Abramthegreat - your Round 2 winnings are in the mailbox to go out on Monday the 9th. Sorry for the delay- I was temporarily unable to access your address when the site was down due to the security certificate issue.

 

I briefly thought about doing the Round 3 drawing now, since I'm here and have the time for it, but on second thought, since the round opened early Friday morning, and it's early Sunday morning now, it's only run two days. And for much of that time, the site was down due to an expired security certificate. So folks may only just now be drifting back in.

Let's give it another day or two for Round 3 to run before we have another drawing. Randy's put up a couple of nice coins for this round, so we want everybody to have a chance to enter.

Drawing tonight, when we transition into the wee hours of Monday morning, or tomorrow night, when Monday night transitions into Tuesday morning?

 

Tonight after midnight it shall be, then. Very early Monday AM Eastern US time. Unless I unexpectedly zonk out.

As an overnight worker for the past decade, I still do go to bed in the evening like normal people do, on my nights off (and tonight is an off night for me). But even so, on those nights off, I still often wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep. The “vampire” hours have gotten ingrained into my circadian rhythm.

See y’all after midnight Eastern, I reckon.

 

Stand by. It is 11:59 PM as I type this, and I said we'd do the drawing "after midnight", so the time draweth nigh. My computer is installing updates at the moment, however. And it's 2% done. *groan*

Geez, it finished that, and now it's 22% through some other update. *groan*

Sheesh. I reckon it's just time to ignore all that and fire up the random number generator and do our drawing. I'll cross my fingers that this computer doesn't decide to restart itself right in the middle of my posting!

An 1838 Coronet Head large cent...



Numista-19856.

An average circulated example; well worn, but with no notable problems or distractions. It looks much better in hand than it does in these poor photos.

... and an unusual 1865 copper-nickel 3-cent piece.





This 1865 three-cent piece has VG details and a very odd feature on the reverse. At first glance it appears it could be a strikethrough error, but closer examination reveals that there is actually some form of unusual damage in that area, instead. (Some kind of weird, localized acid etching, perhaps? Removed solder? I don't know.) Anyway, it's not an ideal example if you are choosy about condition, but it is at least an interesting and unusual piece, struck in the final year of the American Civil War.

There will also be some additional "mystery prize" items.

To enter this round, all you need to do is:

1. Say that you want this lot, and
2. post something else coin-related or cheerful.

Then, sometime in the next 2-4 days (depending on my schedule), we'll do the drawing and move on to the next round.

You may of course say you want it for someone else, if you name that person.
