I'm totally clueless about these. I'm not even sure if these are "real" money. They don't look like it. Not that I've seen a ton of non-US paper currency, but still...

Anyone know anything about these? Why are there holes punched in them?

They are real money, issued by the Japanese government during their occupation of the Philippines in WW2. I don't know why the holes are there, and that probably prevents them from having any real sale value, but they're still pretty cool.

In all fairness, I think researching these would've taken less effort than the posting and photos.

I wonder if the holes are from demonitization marks or if they were put into some sort of binder?

The use of the word CENTAVOS comes from the time the Philippines were under rule by Spain. In the Philippines they still use many Spanish words. Such as Pantalon which means pants.

I believe they also use Zapatos for shoes.

The Philippine JIM notes with holes were handed out by the American Red Cross in the Philippines to servicemembers as souvenirs.

Thanks for the info everyone. I do appreciate it.

    Wow, really?

I was under the impression that people can post photos and ask questions of the members here, in case someone has the same thing, or knows something about the piece.

Sure, I know how to do an image search on google, or use Google to search for every word on a bill/coin, or even search ebay for something. Heck, I also know how to use books at the library....

But those sites aren't THIS site, which I belong to, with the combined knowledge of over 40,000 members.

Maybe I misunderstood the whole "ask questions" kind of vibe I got from this site.

I apologize to all of the forum members, and especially @dave_in_delaware for this snarky remark. I went over the line, and am sorry. I sent Dave a PM earlier letting him know I was sorry, and felt I needed to apologize to all of the Coin Talk members.

Thank you, Steve. I accept your apology. And I replied to your PM. No hard feelings. It appears that we go about our research in a different order. I go to this forum and its knowledge base first. You go to ebay, etc first. It's all good.

And thank you to those who have posted here with info. I greatly appreciate it.
