I am considering buying this fugio. Can anybody tell me what variety it is? This is the first one that I have ever laid hands on. If it could talk. Any help is greatly appreciated.
It's a rare one, Newman 10-G (W6700) the 1 in the date was first punched in horizontally, then vertically; lettering also sloppy in the motto, must have been an amateur making this die. I don't have a clue as to value, but the blundered date is really cool.
I’m curious about the price too. I went for a common variety to be able to afford the most detail I could get.
I would offer him $225 to start. "Never pay full price". Maybe they will have a heart because it's the Holiday season??
I found a 1795 Large Cent that Worn, environmentally damaged because it was in the ground obviously and pitted. I sold it for $60. This is not the case though. So, the price may be accurate.
I would throw my money at whoever was selling this so fast they'd be riddled with paper cuts! That's just me though and I've wanted a fugio for a while now, especially one you can still read and see some details on.
It’s worth it to save up for more details if you just want “a fugio” In this case though, the cost is in the rare variety so the details are going to be worse. You always have to balance appearance / rarity / cost. You might not see this variety again.
This was my thinking too. If it was a common variety I would have passed on it. I did purchase this coin
$275. Tried $250 no luck. The price was going to be $300 if it made it in the case. I’m pleased to have it. Thanks everyone for the help on this coin
I compiled these into a single webpage in my variety resources: Fugio Reference No effort was spent on presentation, but the info is all there, as is a 1983 textual guide by Dennis Rynes.
