I've recently acquired a couple of silver bars and want to see if anyone knows what they are and any potential value. I can send better quality pictures via email if someone would like to discuss. Much appreciated. - Mr. B
Silver bars will be what the current spot silver price is which currently is $30.59 per ounce. So it would be a matter of weighing and doing the arithmetic.
I don't know anything about these, but they appear to be either Chinese or Japanese by the writing on the front. The chop marks on the back make me think different merchants handled them. I would guess they might even have circulated as a sort of money. I would also guess, but I don't know, that someone somewhere collects that sort of thing and that there would be some premium over melt. Finding that someone might be a challenge. Good luck!
Hi Blazer. Welcome to CoinTalk If your bar is over 100 years old it could be quite collectable. Some better lighting without shadows and in focus will help members to identify it better. I love it. I use my cell phone on a soup can Try to fill the screen And select ‘full screen’ option just before you post
Hi @Mr Blazer. Certainly don't sell them for spot silver rate. Your images aren't really good enough for anyone who knows about these to identify them. I can see some corrosion and if these are from a shipwreck you could be considering 10 - 50 times spot rate if they can be identified. As @Neal said , someone , somewhere will collect these and will know what they are. They do look fascinating.
Some of these Far Eastern bars can be quite valuable, but very many counterfeits of them exist. Sadly, that extremely general information is the extent of my knowledge in this area. You're going to need a true expert's opinion on these.
It’s an oriental bar of some kind. Would love to see crisp pictures. Disclaimer: if it’s not counterfeit.
Here are some better images. It was a bit encouraging that a magnet doesn't appear to have any attraction to the bars.
They are unique so the value is above spot pricing. There are collectors for this sort of item. Welcome to CT.
Post this in the World Coins section. There are people there who can read Chinese and Japanese who may know what this is. Weight and dimensions would probably help too. I used google image search and found an exact match on Reddit (from 12 years ago) but it didn't say anything about what it is, only that it's supposedly a pound of silver. https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comme..._did_buy_a_1lb_bar_of_silver_for_3/?rdt=43503
