Unless you are good at identifying fakes, I hope you're buying slabbed ones. It is an often-faked coin. Welcome to Coin Talk!
Right on with that one. If a collector isn't buying slabbed ones, they probably have at least a 50% fake collection. Some of the most recent Chinese fakes are so good that they fool even experienced people.
Thank you, when I saw it on eBay I knew it was the one. Has the perfect toned look IMO for a trade dollar as they tend to tone funky.
I've been trying to do a proof set of trade dollars for the last twenty years and still have a long way to go. I'm not thinking that I will ever be able to afford the '84 or '85 though. I'd post images of them, but I know you are all really tired of seeing nicely toned proof trade dollars.
This is the only one that I have on my phone, but I'll post a couple more when I get to my computer. It's a PCGS PR-64, I agree with the grade, but the reverse is just booming, 66+ quality.
Now, that is what I call a Trade Dollar! Definitely not one of those dubious origin, or hopelessly polished to death train wreck specimens.
